We are looking for a Senior User Experience Designer to help create outstanding digital products for our clients. For this position, we have a need for someone with a strong background in user research. We build custom software for private-sector clients. Typically these software products a) generate revenue; b) touch our clients’ customers; and c) exist in a competitive space, i.e., our clients’ customers have a range of products to choose from, so our work really needs to stand out. Oftentimes we research, design, and build brand new products, but some clients also engage us to rethink and redesign existing applications. 
 
Our clients expect us to be comfortable balancing design with business and technology perspectives, to understand how the design decisions impact these two dimensions in order to build a successful product, and to collaborate effectively.

This role will be based in either the Greater Boston Area, the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex, or the NYC Metropolitan Area.

Responsibilities:

•Writing the user research plan so everyone understands what activities you’ll perform and what you are looking to find out;

•Handling the recruiting, from writing the screener to evaluating the respondents to booking the sessions. If our client will be lining up the participants, you know how to guide them through this;

•Ensuring that your studies have the right number and right mix of participants in terms of roles and experience;

•Leading the research sessions, most of which will be live via video conference. You’re  an expert at asking open, even-toned questions to get unbiased answers;

•Distilling the findings, identifying patterns, priorities, and pain points quickly and concisely;

•Communicating the findings clearly and persuasively to colleagues (usually Product and Engineering) and clients;

•Using the research toolstack you’ll ensure that your plans and findings are transparent, findable and transportable in an easy to follow digital footprint; 

•Raising the profile and profitability of user research by helping train other designers in user research, and being an evangelist for putting the user in front of all decisions and decision makers.


Qualifications:

•6+ years of experience working on complex digital products, who has the following UX skills and abilities:

•Ability to gain a deep understanding of user needs and goals, communicate with cross functional product teams, and apply principles of design thinking and agile to create engaging user experiences

•Experienced in recognizing the challenges of putting together a research initiative. You are able to handle the situations that arise when recruitment becomes challenging. You can find ways to get the research done in the face of adversity. 

•Proven ability to turn participant questions around and draw out a usable answer. You know when to deflect, thrust and parry feedback and comments. You have a number of methods in your toolbox that you can deploy based on the problem you are setting out to solve.  

•Ability to understand that no research is usable by a broader team until someone makes sense of it and you are happy to be that person. You have a keen eye for finding the needles in the haystack and seeing how those pieces fit together. You enjoy the process of pulling the curtain back and explaining what is going on behind the scenes to the rest of your team. 

•Highly skilled at leading the design process in a collaborative manner with cross-functional teams, gathering many ideas, and building upon each other’s ideas in an iterative way to come up with the best solutions, ensuring its all grounded in the research you’ve shared. 

•Ability to craft your data into many different forms of communication and shareability. You love crafting interactive behaviors that engage and delight users, and stay up to date on the latest techniques.
