Job Scope:
Plays a pivotal role on the Global Investment Team, working closely with a collaborative group of investment professionals including the firm’s Managing Partners. This is a leadership role for deal execution from sourcing to wire completed. Principals actively manage deal processes, administrative projects, and become investing experts in certain industries.  The Principal will have the opportunity to play a key role supporting investments, sit in on board meetings and support firm wide strategy as 500 Global scales.

Essential Functions

    • Manage and as needed, directly lead, all stages of investment, including deal sourcing, initial screening, market analysis, company/product research, due diligence, deal structuring and negotiation, investment committee presentations.
    • Develop investment theses.
    • Lead sector deep dives to uncover interesting investment opportunities and work with team on both primary and secondary market research.
    • Conduct ad-hoc analysis (e.g., market sizing, analyzing survey data, pricing analysis, web analytics data);
    • Support portfolio and fund analysis including tracking our pipeline and consolidating KPIs across portfolios.
    • Working with our portfolio companies to support them on strategic initiatives.
    • Deeply understand the metrics of our portfolio companies and how they trend over time.
    • Support fund operations including writing quarterly LP reports on new investments and our pipelineConduct financial, market and company diligence on new potential investments; desk research on industries and trends.
    • Deal sourcing - establish connections with peer investors and founders to get deal flow; may include speaking at panels, conferences, podcasts and other networking events. Serve as primary deal lead for individually sourced companies and support them throughout the accelerator program and beyond.
    • Deal screening - connect with founder prospects, conduct screening calls, evaluate investment opportunities
    • Deal diligence - gather information about the company’s progress, understand competitive landscapes, company’s metrics and unit economics, calculate market size and conduct founder reference checks.
    • Conduct deep analysis of prospective investment opportunities including evaluating upside outcomes and downside risk - modeling various scenarios, building competitive landscapes, examining market size data.
    • Process deal memos on post-investment transactions i.e. financings, M&As, ESOP requests, AGMs and other shareholder-related resolutions that need the fund’s signature.
    • Closely collaborate with Partners and General Partners to execute the fund’s investment thesis, in addition to advocating/pitching prospective investments. Write internal investment memos highlighting risks and investment theses.
    • Collaborate with accelerator batch company’s growth coaches during the program to align on the company’s goals and support growth experiments Identify high performing portfolio companies and float up follow-on investment opportunities to the investment committee for a decision.
    • Identify key milestones and metrics to best position the investments for Series A and follow-on.
    • Comprehend and verify cap tables and distribution waterfall structures to assist portfolio companies in financings or exits as needed.
    • Research and discover meaningful trends. Share those insights internally and externally via the 500 blog. 

Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
    • 8 or more years of experience working in an operational role for a high growth startup or proven experience in a strategy consulting, strategic planning or finance role. 
    • With 2–5 years in venture capital.
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Existing investment track record Management experienceAdvanced proficiency in Salesforce.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Graduate business degree.
    • Startup or large cap tech company operator experience.
    • High integrity, stellar judgment, and discretion to handle and manage highly sensitive, confidential and non-public information.
    • Metrics-driven. Knows how to analyze and synthesize data and draw reasonable conclusions.
    • Curious about developing systems to help automate reporting/analytics and put more data directly in the hands of business users.
    • Bias to action. Takes initiative and remains communicative, adaptable, and reliable.
    • Ability to quickly build trust and connect with other team members, cross-functional partner, and portfolio founders. 
    • Leverages subject matter experts. Consult internal experts for review and validation before publishing work.
    • Company-first. Deep respect and humility for the company’s brand. Wants to adapt to make the brand shine versus using the brand to make oneself shine.
$170,000 - $180,000 a year
