At USAFacts, facts deserve to be heard. USAFacts provides a comprehensive, unbiased view of our country—by the numbers. Founded and funded by former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, USAFacts is committed to making government data accessible, understandable, and actionable for the American people.

Finding answers to basic questions about government spending and outcomes isn’t easy, but it’s essential. USAFacts pulls together data from thousands of jurisdictions, normalizing and visualizing key metrics so that everyone—from policymakers to the general public—can engage with the facts in a meaningful way.

This is more than just data—it’s about strengthening democracy through informed debate. The USAFacts team is mission-driven, operating with no political agenda and no commercial incentive. Their work is purely a public service, fueled by curiosity, collaboration, and a passion for making complex data approachable.

And the impact hasn’t gone unnoticed—USAFacts was named to Fast Company’s List of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2024.

The Opportunity

USAFacts is committed to providing unbiased, transparent data about the United States. As the go-to source for accessible government data, USAFacts empowers the public with facts to drive informed conversations.

We are seeking an impact-driven Senior Product Designer to join our mission-driven team. This role is ideal for a designer with experience in consumer-facing products who excels at owning the end-to-end UX process, with a strong focus on visual design. Joining a small but mighty design team of two, this designer will have the opportunity to make a direct and visible impact.

In this role, the designer will be instrumental in shaping AI-powered features that enhance engagement and retention, making USAFacts a more compelling and “stickier” platform. They will lead efforts to create video-centered product experiences, transforming government data into dynamic, relatable, and visually engaging stories. By designing products that spark curiosity and provide context, they will enable users to explore data in ways that foster a deeper understanding of the topics that matter most.

Additionally, this designer will contribute to the development of a scalable design system, ensuring consistency and quality across USAFacts’ suite of products.

This is a collaborative, individual contributor role without direct people management responsibilities.

    • Drive data-informed design: Conduct usability research studies, analyze feedback, and iterate on designs to improve user experiences.
    • Create engaging video and AI-driven experiences: Play a leading role in developing features that integrate video and AI, making government data more accessible and relatable for users.
    • Contribute to stickier user experiences: Design features and products that encourage deeper user engagement, increase subscriptions, and promote exploration of data about users’ communities, based on their location and affiliations.

    • Collaborative mindset: Proven ability to work closely with engineers and product managers, building strong partnerships to balance user and business goals.
    • Strategic thinking and influence: Experience shaping product strategy through competitive audits, user research, and advocating for best practices. Proficient in measuring success through both qualitative (usability studies) and quantitative (KPI tracking) data.
    • Proactive leadership and bias for action: Experience taking initiative in moments of uncertainty to drive decision making and a background working with agile methodologies.
    • Figma proficiency: Deep expertise in Figma, including features like auto layout, components, and variants, ensuring smooth design and development collaboration.
