Who we are:
We believe that small businesses are stronger together and we’re looking for people who are passionate about our mission.
Alignable is a remote-first, mission-driven Series C (and profitable) growth stage startup on a mission to bring together small business owners from across the globe to help them gain competitive advantage so they can succeed in their business.
Small businesses give our communities character -- generating local jobs and supporting local causes. They are the creators, the risk takers and the problem solvers. Each with a unique story.
For business owners who depend on referrals for success, Alignable is the online community helping them initiate and build trusted relationships leading to quality referrals. Owners depend on quality referrals for all aspects of their business, and whether they’re looking for new customers, suppliers, or services needed to run their business – they’re finding them all here on our platform. Our highly engaged and supportive peer network plays a critical role in helping these businesses (our Members) succeed, especially within an ever-changing economic environment.
Alignable is North America's largest small business network with over 7 million businesses in 30,000+ communities. If you want to empower the small business owner through a networking platform unlike any other, let’s talk.
What you will be doing:
We are looking for a Senior Product Designer who shares our passion for helping small businesses succeed to join our growing team. In this role, you will contribute to the continuous growth and improvement of the largest and fastest-growing small business social referral network – at a time of significant growth.
Connecting our Members with their peers is only possible if our platform is meticulously crafted with the needs of the small business owner in mind. As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll use your UX and UI skills to add value and encourage engagement, while also championing simplicity and ease of use for our Members. You’ll be the design lead on a cross-functional squad including Data Science, Analytics, Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing partners who’ll work alongside you to achieve business and member goals. As an early member of the Design team, you will also work with your fellow Designers to shape our team’s approach, structure and processes and serve as an advocate for our discipline within the wider organization.
Alignable presents some unique UX opportunities and challenges that make this role unusually interesting and creatively challenging.
What success looks like:
- You will ensure UX is at the forefront of every initiative we undertake. You will be a constant advocate for user experience – comfortable communicating remotely with teammates in partner disciplines (ie. Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Member Success, etc), and with executive stakeholders – facilitating UX brainstorming workshops, making UX presentations, collaborating on key initiatives and documentation.
- You will understand the voices of Members. You will be comfortable speaking with Alignable Members on a regular basis to understand their needs, wants and challenges as small business owners – and as users of the Alignable platform. You’ll derive insights from these conversations and turn them into experience enhancements that add value for members while improving key metrics for the business.
- You will work quickly and iteratively. You will be comfortable with very fast-moving projects and initiatives that are conceived, explored, designed, prototyped, iterated, tested and launched in constant (often overlapping) cycles.
- You will have big responsibilities, but plenty of support. Our culture is dynamic, collaborative, and offers tremendous opportunities to grow your UX career. You will have frequent access to experienced founders, mentoring from seasoned product and design professionals, cross-collaboration with multiple partner disciplines and the opportunity to grow your skillset and responsibility. Every one of our employees can directly point to how they've made significant impacts on the business.
What you will bring:
- 5+ years relevant UX/Product Design experience
- A comprehensive online portfolio that showcases strong case studies and beautiful shipped designs that highlight your approach, process, decisions, and learnings
- A growth mindset and a willingness to own problems
- Prior experience partnering closely and collaboratively with product, engineering, and marketing peers at a consumer-focused and product-led organization/startup
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience using Figma and working with design systems
- Team collaboration: Help raise the bar for design and user experience in product development through design critiques, feedback sessions and close collaboration with product owners, designers and engineers across the organization
- User research (gathering, conducting, interpreting, implementing)
- Requirements gathering (capturing and synthesizing business and user requirements, and mapping them to technology realities)
- User journey mapping
- Wireframe prototyping
- User testing (planning, conducting, interpreting, implementing)
- Understanding Insights: Comfort with, and willingness to learn about the complex data and analytics that underpin social networking – and which drive what content is presented to each user whenever they visit – based on industry segmentation, demographics, previous behaviors and desired behaviors
- Interest and ability to empathize and connect with the mindsets of small business owners – especially in the current pandemic-impacted environment
- Ability to quickly context-switch as both strategic and tactical UX initiatives demand
- Understanding of, and ability to immerse in social networking user experiences
- Comfort with, and willingness to learn about the complex data and analytics that underpin social networking – and which drive what content is presented to each user whenever they visit – based on industry segmentation, demographics, previous behaviors and desired behaviors.
