Arbol seeks an experienced attorney to advise on complex structured transactions.  Arbol is an InsurTech company offering  global climate risk solutions for businesses through structured financial products, including insurance, reinsurance, and derivatives.  The Assistant General Counsel will work with members of the legal department and the insurance team on planning, negotiating, and executing complex structured deals.  The ideal candidate is an ambitious lawyer looking to switch from a law firm's transactional practice to an in-house role.

Responsibilities

    • Provide legal guidance and support in a variety of areas, with a particular focus on complex, high-value transactions involving multiple entities
    • Draft and negotiate a variety of legal agreements ensuring company protection and risk avoidance
    • Work with senior leaders of the company for legal guidance and support on strategic and corporate governance matters
    • Partner with business units across the company on a variety of projects and initiatives
    • Manage outside counsel as necessary for regulatory and litigation guidance
    • Work with other members of the legal team in representing and advising the company

Requirements

    • Minimum of 5 years of substantive legal experience, with a focus on structured financial transactions
    • Comfort with working with stakeholders at all levels of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization
    • Experience drafting complex legal documents, including ISDA Master Agreements, insurance policies, and reinsurance agreements 
    • Experience with structuring insurance-linked securities, side cars, and other risk vehicles
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and drafting skills, with an attention to detail and a comfort in juggling competing priorities
    • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
    • Experience with insurance documents and ISDA derivatives is preferred but not required
    • A mix of law firm and in-house experience is preferred but not required
We are based in NYC, but about 70% of the company is remote. The position requires a mix of in-office and at-home work. We offer very good health plans fully covered by the company, as well as stock options.
