Arbol seeks to hire a team member for the Data Engineering Team! All the contracts we write use some kind of data. Rain levels, soil health, algae concentrations -- there are lots and lots of interesting and useful climate datasets out there. But all the different projects that release them use their own formats and hosting infrastructure. So, we've taken on the project of standardizing, modernizing, and decentralizing all the free climate datasets out there so they can be ingested by our systems -- and anyone else who wants to use them. We write ETLs in Python, run them via a tool called Ansible, and upload them to something called IPFS where they are indexed by a thing called dClimate.net and made available to everyone. Most or all of the code you write will be open source.
You’d be joining a small team of three data engineers and would have an opportunity to shape the direction of Arbol’s data pipeline at a relatively early stage. At Arbol, we value initiative and innovation at all levels of the organization, so a strong candidate would eventually play a role in system-design and architectural decisions. This is an ideal position for someone who wants to learn rapidly and become an integral part of a tight-knit, successful team.
Arbol seeks candidates with:
- Junior-expert experience levels (with pay commensurate to experience)
- Strong Python coding abilities
- Strong understanding of software design principles
- Experience with Pandas
- Some experience with ETLs
- Some experience with Docker
- An interest in learning IPFS (there will be a lot of this)
- An Interest in open source, blockchain, and "decentralized" software/communities/organizations
- An Interest in climate science
