W Magazine is seeking a New York-based Managing Editor, who will be responsible for both strategy planning and the day-to-day operational execution of our print and digital publication.  This is a temp to perm position.

As managing editor, you will be responsible for oversight of staff, editorial line ups and schedules, and pitch workflows for features, packages, and long-term planning.  

Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in working on content that contends with culture, fashion, art, and luxury. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6-8 years of experience editing for a national publication, working on both print and digital channels. 

Responsibilities

    • Responsible for oversight of production and publication of W Magazine, including editorial line ups, long-term planning,  pitch workflows, and general management of publishing schedules
    • Update and keep track of all editorial line ups, digital production schedule, and all timelines for print issues. 
    • Partner with print, sales, digital, and PR teams on all timelines, production and releases
    • Lead staff production meetings twice a week, including scheduling, meeting agendas, and tracking all changes
    • Manage staff schedules, in regards to all holidays and office schedules; partner with HR on hiring and onboarding new hires
    • Manage budget for all written aspects of W, in addition to handling all negotiations with outside vendors. Manage freelance writer budget and all print and digital related invoices
    • Work alongside senior editors to approve, edit, and manage features and original reporting
    • Proactively create and manage new workflows as needed to enable writers and editors to work efficiently and effectively
    • Oversee production director and a team of 4, including research manager, copy manager, and digital asset manager. Review the final print product, including proofreading for all pages before going to press.

Requirements

    • 6+ years of print publishing, editorial content creation and distribution.
    • Passion and interest for editorial content and the various categories that W covers, especially in culture, fashion, art, and luxury.
    • Demonstrated ability leading a team of writers and editors
    • Salary Range: $82,000 - $90,000
