Inverse has an immediate opening for the role of Senior Science Editor. The leadership position in our editorial team is tasked with carrying out our ongoing mission to offer science journalism for a curious, big audience in the well-established Inverse style.

We are looking for an editor who can inspire and lead a diverse group of early and mid-career journalists and editors to do their best work yet. We believe that sustained readership comes from interested, original reporting, and colorful writing on topics for a readership that’s curious about themselves, their future, their past, and the universe around them.

The job involves assigning and receiving pitches from writers within their established beats, developing new series, working on features with some writers, coming up with special issue ideas, and more.

The Senior Science Editor will manage a team that currently includes a Science Editor, two full-time staff writers, five part-time writers, and several freelancers. The Senior Science Editor also manages a freelance budget to grow the section in new areas and double down on beats that deserve support.

Core areas of coverage include health and longevity, space exploration, ancient humans, weird physics discoveries, technological innovation, the future of transportation, and more.
