Fashion/Beauty Commerce Writer

Bustle Digital Group is seeking a part-time Commerce Writer to join our growing BDG Shops team.
BDG Shops (see: The Bustle Shop and The Zoe Report Shop) feature shopping articles and product reviews in a wide range of product categories, with a particular focus on fashion and beauty. These pages utilize an in-article checkout feature that allows readers to purchase the products right on Bustle and The Zoe Report, without clicking out to multiple retailers.

The success of an article on BDG Shops is measured based on the revenue it earns. This means the ideal candidate is not only a strong writer, but can also effectively communicate what makes a product worth purchasing.

Candidates must have two or more years of experience in commerce writing, ideally in the fashion or beauty space. Think: You’ve previously covered the best dresses to wear to a summer wedding, have told readers about your favorite AHA serum, or rounded up all the trendy chunky sole boots everyone was wearing this fall.

Most importantly, candidates should be knowledgeable and passionate about researching products and shopping trends: They should have an eye for the type of the products our readers want to buy, are eager to spend time searching through (sometimes hundreds!) of items, and come ready to suggest coverage of major shopping/style trends.

This is a part-time position that requires 15-20 hours per week of remote work.

    • Pitch and write shopping and commerce articles for The Bustle Shop and The Zoe Report Shop. Assignments will vary, but will include a mix of product launches, seasonal round-ups, trend stories, celebrity style, and evergreen shopping content.
    • Update out-of-stock products in previously published articles with similar finds.
    • Work closely with the Branded Commerce Editor to ensure articles are informative, conversational, and encourage readers to “add to cart,” (thus driving revenue).

    • Previous experience writing commerce/shopping articles
    • Excellent time management and organization
    • Availability to work 15-20 hours per week remotely
    • A select number of stories will require the writer to find expert sources (i.e. wardrobe stylists, makeup artists, estheticians, hair stylists) to quote. The ideal candidate will be comfortable conducting phone and email interviews with these experts.
