Our mission: Make meetings better, for everybody

At Bizly, we want to turn meetings into the amazing sources of productivity, connection, and happiness they were meant to be. Our robust meeting-building platform gives organizations everything they need to plan and run gatherings to actually accomplish that. Now we need you.

We’re hiring our Head of Engineering

We’re welcoming more humans to our leadership team to grow our capabilities, reach, and impact—and to change the fate of meetings forever. This role is our first step in building out a world-class engineering team you can call your own.

We are looking for someone who checks their ego at the door.  The right candidate is highly confident but is always willing to be wrong, learn, and grow.  The right candidate for this role is “a barrel” -- someone who is passionate about the mission, is willing to get in the trenches and code, has the keen ability to rally the team, and ships products faster and more reliably than most people think is possible.   We are looking for a leader who is an expert in navigating the balance between infrastructure and features and thrives down in the trenches with making tactical architectural decisions.   The ideal candidate is savvy in recruiting and inspiring talented engineers and working with them to help them unlock their potential.   You’ll be focused on a greenfield product so the foundational engineering decisions are yours to own.

We need someone to

    • Drive the software architecture and engineering strategy of our latest product
    • Fully map out and drive the right software architecture, including framework and language decisions, and API infrastructure based on the needs of the product and business
    • Consider all the opportunities, interdependencies, need areas, and challenges and develop thoughtful durable solutions
    • Actively engage with peers and thought leaders to identify innovative approaches that should be considered and do so in a balanced way without overly emphasizing “trendy” approaches
    • Benchmark engineering excellence as best-in-class architecture in the productivity SaaS category, avoiding pitfalls that many have faced in areas such as multi-tenancy

    • Take ownership over shipping great products and features
    • Own backlog grooming, prioritization, and sprints working in collaboration with product, design, and business teams
    • Expertise in resource management, optimizing available resources, and professionally articulating ROI of new investments
    • Drive a truly data-centric approach to engineering velocity while being keenly aware of balancing workload, burnout, and redundancy as well as balancing investment in infrastructure vs features
    • Continuously identify opportunities to reduce waste, focus on what’s most important, and ship products faster than most think is possible

    • Build a great engineering team culture
    • Work closely with other departments and ensure full cross-department alignment
    • Be actively engaged in the talent sourcing, vetting, and hiring process; identify unique ways to engage with the best talent
    • Take a holistic approach to understanding your team and unlocking their potential
    • Create a culture of caring, thoughtfulness, and speed in the engineering department

What you can bring to Bizly

    • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience at a tech-forward, product-driven company or startup
    • A knack for building both software and teams from the ground up
    • Experience creating a culture centered on accountability and continuous improvement
    • Proven ability to mastermind inspired software architecture and code that is simple, fast, and reliable
    • Experience with ML and AI frameworks
    • Experience owning technical architecture from kick-off to ship
    • A strong commitment to diversity
    • You’re the type that can truly commit to a company and problem and see things all the way through the good and bad times.
    • You’re very thoughtful about your decisions and reasoning.
    • Very strong market awareness and knowledge of cutting edge approaches, trends, technologies, and ‘the culture’ of the best-in-class user-facing product companies
    • Expertise in enterprise SaaS preferred
    • Track record of making foundational engineering decisions that were right and scaled
    • Track record of hiring and cultivating world-class engineering talent
    • Savvy and experience in both in-house and outsourced development as may be necessary
    • Prepared to improvise and problem-solve solutions on the spot with difficult, atypical problems
    • The ability to communicate your vision, strategy, and the reason behind your decisions both internally and externally
    •  The ability to work both strategically and tactically
    • A tactical “roll up the sleeves” approach to the work, being able to work independently and be resourceful when there isn’t a full-time or in-house resource for the need
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

You’re the kind of person who

    • Is "No Ego, Amigo": does whatever it takes to make the product successful—whether that means writing code, doing QA, or hunting down the root cause of a user’s frustration
    • Thrives as both a creative product thinker and collaborative partner
    • Has a sharp eye for engineering talent and a “player/coach” mindset
    • Knows what it takes to win in a startup environment
    • Has big ambitions, lofty ideas, and the entrepreneurial spirit to make things happen
Inclusivity is central to our company, product, and mission. If you’re passionate, dedicated, and unafraid to change the status quo, we encourage you to apply, even if your experience isn’t an exact fit. At Bizly you’ll have the opportunity to grow, space to be yourself, and ownership over your success, not to mention a few perks. It’s an exciting time to get in early and make an impact following our 10x ARR growth over the past year. Show us what you got!

Psst: Our headquarters are in the Bay Area but we are fully remote-friendly.
