Blue Ocean Barns, Inc. (BOB) is a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation on a mission to solve the climate impact of cattle by working with farmers and food companies to commercialize and rapidly scale the production and use of our proprietary, algae-based livestock feed ingredient.  Originally launched in the heart of Silicon Valley, the company has since established operations on the Big Island of Hawaii and San Diego. The Co-founders of BOB have successfully marshaled the company’s resources through the early stages of development and have positioned it for rapid growth. We are now seeking to build a team who share the values of the company and who are energized by the challenge of creating a carbon-neutral livestock industry for the next generation. Critical to our success is a team member who is, firstly, skilled in the art and practice of accounting and financial management of rapidly growing enterprises. In our present circumstances, we are looking for someone to take the lead as described below.

Job Responsibilities

    • Manage day-to-day company accounts.
    • Develop month-end close and accounting processes leveraging system capabilities that deliver accurate and timely management and financial reporting.
    • Assist with financial planning.
    • Oversee budget forecasting and cash flow management.
    • Develop and manage financial controls and accounting procedures. Ensure all controls and procedures are documented, implemented, and conform with governmental regulations as well as efficient operations.
    • Complete required transaction entries and journal entries.
    • Complete all sales tax payments, returns, and journal entries.
    • Provides financial analysis, communicates findings and advice to management on how to increase revenue and reduce costs.
    • Maintain speed and accuracy of billings and customer payments through developing relationships with customers and vendors.
    • Coordinate and produce all tax and insurance documentation as required.
    • Work with the co-founders on the strategic vision of the company.
    • Ensure the financial statements for all locations are accurate and fairly stated monthly.
    • Complete bank reconciliation – all locations.
    • Manage relationships with third party vendors used for payroll, insurance, etc.
    • Monitor banking activities of Blue Ocean Barns Inc. and Blue Ocean Barns Mexico to ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization’s needs.
    • Oversee all purchasing, receiving, fixed assets, inventory, and payroll processes to ensure all information is accurately recorded.
    • Continually investigate more cost-effective processes, including benefit programs, company insurance, etc.
    • Supervise a small internal staff and manage external financial and system services.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

    • 5+ years of relevant experience as a Controller, senior level accountant or in a similar accounting role
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, IFRS, and SEC reporting
    • Proficient in Quickbooks
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
    • CPA (certified public accountant) desired but not required
$140,000 - $150,000 a year
