Burro is the leading robotics company in the world by number of robots working outdoors in the field with real customers. Our mission is to free people from tedious work and solve the critical labor shortages faced by farmers and others that work outdoors.

To accomplish our mission, we need a world-class, diverse team where everyone feels comfortable sharing their ideas. With this in mind, we strive to create a work environment where every employee can be themselves and express their perspective – this enables us to deliver the most creative and innovative solutions to problems our customers face.

Headquartered in Philadelphia with an office in central California, and backed by top Agtech and autonomy investors, including S2G, Catalyst Investors, Translink Capital, Cibus, FPrime, Toyota Ventures, FFVC, Xplorer, and Radicle, Burro was created to solve the labor shortages facing farmers using robotics.

Burros can be described as Disney's Wall-E for agriculture and work outdoors, in a 1.0 format.  They function, today, as computer vision based autonomous ground vehicles for carrying, towing, and scouting, and are designed to lay the base for the fully autonomous future of work outdoors.  We have a growing triple digit fleet deployed in paid commercial use within vineyards, nurseries, berries, and beyond, and demand for our product is accelerating, so we are growing our team.

About you: You are a highly motivated Machine Learning Engineer with experience in learning for perception and a strong foundation in general machine learning to join our team. You will contribute to designing, building, and deploying cutting-edge vision ML systems, while also supporting broader machine learning initiatives across the company.

    • Design and train neural networks that combine multi-modal sensor inputs (e.g., camera + LiDAR) for perception tasks such as  semantic segmentation, and depth estimation.
    • Explore architectures like PointNet/PointPillars, BEVFusion, Multi-Modal Transformers, and Sensor-specific backbones for fusion.
    • Synchronize, calibrate, and preprocess data from heterogeneous sensors.
    • Contribute towards building robust data pipelines for quick training and inference.
    • Monitor, maintain and improve multi-modal machine learning models for our perception stack.
    • Optimize models for real-time and embedded performance
    • Contribute to model versioning, experiment tracking, and performance benchmarking using tools like Weights & Biases

Requirements

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field
    • 2–5 years of experience building and deploying ML models, particularly in computer vision or autonomous systems
    • Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, TensorRT); C++ experience is a plus
    • Solid understanding of deep learning, including CNNs, vision transformers, and fusion networks
    • Familiarity with LiDAR-camera calibration, sensor fusion (early/late/cross-modal attention), and 3D object detection and scene segmentation
    • Skilled in managing and preprocessing multi-modal datasets
    • Strong focus on model optimization for real-time and embedded performance
    • Experience building robust data pipelines for training, inference, and production deployment
