In this role you’ll use your unique combination of software development and operations expertise to solve business problems. You’ll partner with other teams to remove pain points in their workflows and help them become more productive, improving speed to market. You’ll improve the reliability of our services and infrastructure so that we can keep the confidence of our customers and reduce time spent firefighting internally, minimizing costly downtime and maintenance costs.

As teams and products grow, so does entropy and friction in their workflows. What works best in terms of infrastructure and tooling evolves as growth happens. If teams aren’t able to stay ahead of this growth curve, their productivity and overall work satisfaction begins to decline and the reliability of the services they build becomes diminished. The platform team plays a critical role in helping the organization scale it’s technology as business needs evolve and grow.

Manage our AWS and Kubernetes based infrastructure

Setup, manage, and improve CI/CD pipelines across the engineering org

Build internal tooling and automation flows to help the organization become more efficient

Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and tools to proactively recommend improvements and enhancements to our platform

Work cross-functionally with stakeholders across the company to identify opportunities for platform to improve their tooling and workflows

Improve the reliability and resiliency of our services

Bolster our logging and monitoring efforts

5+ years of professional software engineering experience

3+ years of experience in a devops focused role

You love helping others become more productive

Strong analytical, problem solving, and debugging skills

Can respond iteratively and rapidly to changes in business requirements

You’ve worked with cloud based systems such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure

Experience working with Kubernetes based infrastructure

BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent

You’ve used IaC tools such as Terraform or Pulumi

You’ve worked in the fintech and/or payments space before

You have experience working with logging & monitoring tools such as DataDog or Prometheus to manage the agents themselves, setup custom metrics, and customer parsers

Modern subscription companies accidentally lose up to 4% of their total customer base each year due to churn caused by legitimate payments failing (passive churn). These payments fail either because they are falsely detected as fraud or because of archaic systems in an aging payment ecosystem.

Butter uses patented machine learning and artificial intelligence to deeply understand the real time state for any given payment and then optimizes for success. Butter offers a free assessment and trial to validate a customer’s found revenue opportunity, integrates with existing payment processors, and charges an ongoing success fee tied to revenue recovered.

Butter typically recovers up to $1M or more of found revenue for our customers and gives 1% back to causes that support our mission of enabling anyone anywhere to have access to the things they deserve and need.

Butter is well funded by leading investors and offers a competitive benefits package including unlimited PTO, 401k, and comprehensive health insurance. The salary range for this position is $112,000 - $234,800.
