Who You Are
- 5–7+ years of professional experience managing content for a large-scale social media brand or publisher, preferably in culture, entertainment, or lifestyle.
- Proven track record of growing and engaging a social audience, with deep fluency in Instagram’s features, best practices, and emerging trends.
- An innate sense of what’s culturally relevant and what’s next, with the ability to create posts that resonate with Complex’s millennial and Gen Z audience.
- Must be extremely online: up-to-date on memes, viral sounds, influencer drama, sports moments, celebrity news, and digital discourse.
- Strong writing and editorial skills with an ear for headline writing, sharp copy, and strong visual instincts.
- Video editing experience for IG Reels and Stories (CapCut, Adobe Premiere, or similar tools).
- Comfortable being on-camera when needed and appearing in or voicing social-first content.
- Excellent organization and time management skills; able to thrive in a fast-paced and reactive environment.
- Willingness to work occasional nights or weekends, especially for tentpole events or breaking news.
What You'll Do
- Help lead the day-to-day editorial programming and strategy for Complex’s flagship Instagram account, ensuring alignment with the brand’s voice, tone, and cultural POV.
- Pitch, write, edit, and post original content daily, including memes, carousels, reels, and news-driven posts, with a focus on timeliness, shareability, and audience engagement.
- Conceptualize and execute social-first video series and visuals that reflect Complex’s core verticals—music, pop culture, style, sports, and internet trends.
- Collaborate closely with the editorial, video, and design teams to amplify digital and video content across Instagram in innovative and engaging ways.
- Monitor trends, news cycles, and real-time analytics to inform content programming and identify reactive posting opportunities.
- Work with branded content, sales, and commerce teams to ideate and execute sponsored social posts and campaigns on the main page.
- Maintain a high standard of editorial accuracy, formatting, and style consistency across posts.
- Manage junior team members and interns, offering mentorship and quality control support when needed, specifically the weekend freelancers.
- Help execute cover rollouts on AirTable and across all social media platforms.
- Assist with coverage and strategy of Complex New York pop-ups and Complex Shop content.

$80,000 - $90,000 a year
The Pay Range, which consists of salary and commission, for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Complex Total Rewards offerings for employees.
