About the Role

As our Head of People, you will build, improve, and manage Duffl’s HR processes throughout the Company, including, but not limited to, people management, compliance, and culture. You will serve as a generalist to create a safe, compliant and stimulating environment for all employees to thrive at, meaning you will partner closely with business leaders across multiple functions to create and implement new processes.

You will play a central role in decisions affecting Duffl’s human capital strategy (hiring, onboarding, training, resources, day-to-day oversight) as we accelerate through a phase of growth and success at scale. Additionally, you bring a deep knowledge of HR policies, programs, laws and best practices to the Company to help ensure Duffl is in compliance. Your passion for attention to detail, systems design, and process improvement are the qualities needed to excel in this role.
The successful candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable wearing multiple hates, and has a passion for Duffl and our community.  We seek versatile thinkers who can structure and analyze a variety of business problems.

About the Work

In this role, you will be expected to

- Drive the strategy, design and measurement of end-to-end HR business procedures from the ground up, including recruiting, training, development, communication, and performance management practices, while regularly troubleshooting process issues, applying technology to refine / eliminate non value-added steps and identifying opportunities for further improvement

- Ensure compliance of major labor and employment laws across the Company, including workplace safety, trainings, and benefits, by:
- Architecting, implementing and standardizing procedures across the Company
- Developing and providing access to key resources for all employees
- Completing and organizing required documentation for all employees
- Purchasing and distributing necessary equipment / tools to all stores to increase safety measures
- Identifying and mitigating areas of concern in existing practices

- Ensure employee satisfaction and development by planning and conducting regular team events, as well as setting up career development and training plans

- Counsel, coach and guide employees by addressing concerns and complaints to assure fair and equitable treatment while ensuring compliance with local labor regulations and practices

- Establish a robust knowledge base that’s inclusive of creating, capturing, organizing, and assessing employee-facing HR operating procedures, policies, and process documentation to make it easy for employees to find the information they need, when they need it.

30 / 60 / 90 Day Expectations

30 Days

1.     Understand Duffl’s existing HR infrastructure, including hiring, onboarding, training, resources, and knowledge database  
2.     Meet with business leaders across the Company to determine each team’s largest needs

3.     Identify inefficiencies and areas of opportunity for Duffl to prioritize and focus on

4.     Assist with ad hoc projects

60 Days

1.     Identify and begin mitigating largest labor and employment law concerns – required documentation, policies, trainings…etc

2.     Establish procedures, lines of communications and resources for all employees regarding standard HR processes, including but not limited to:

- Onboarding / Orientation
- Reporting Incidents Internally (Accidents, Safety…etc)
- Worker’s Comp Claims

3.     Create Company Culture Calendar to improve employee satisfaction, promote bonding and develop closer relationships among

4.     Assist with ad hoc projects

90 Days

1.     Revamp and standardize hiring & training practices for all different roles, including onboarding a LMS solution, creating SCORMs for customized trainings and implementing them across the Company

2.     Identify new strategic initiatives for Duffl to create a repeatable and scalable culture across all stores, regardless of which city / state it is in

3.     Establish self as a strategic thought partner to the CEO / Leadership team to drive company strategy

4.     Assist with ad hoc projects

About You

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, and/or related field
- 5+ years of experience in Human Resources and/or People Operations team, where you gained:

- Performance management best practices
- Experience handling Worker’s Comp insurance, injury reporting and claims submissions
- Benefits management
- Experience diffusing tension and effectively mediating conflict
- Presentation and training design & facilitation practice

- Mastery of employment law basics, including required documentation, compliant policies, and mandatory trainings
- A proven ability to identify and drive impactful outcomes and manage complex projects across multiple teams

- Excellent interpersonal skills, including high EQ, great communication skills (written and oral), and ability to build trust and influence at all levels of an organization

Nice to Have

- Experience building HR systems, processes and programs from scratch, preferably at a tech start-up
- Certificate from a recognized Human Resources Management Program

- Adept in Ripping, Lattice and/or Notion
