About the Role

ETS is seeking a lab technician to assist the R&D team’s work in the Medford, MA lab where ETS tests its novel electrically-heating refractory bricks. Your role will be at the forefront of our development work to characterize and test our novel bricks which form the basis of the Joule Hive ™ thermal battery. Your work will tangibly deepen our understanding of this cutting-edge technology through varied and challenging test campaigns. You will report to the Lead Test Engineer.  

What You'll Do at ETS

    • Assemble, monitor, and disassemble test assemblies composed of refractory bricks, support structures, and diagnostics inside of high-temperature furnaces.  
    • Prepare refractory samples for testing, including cutting, drilling, and grinding.  
    • Prepare diagnostics, such as cutting wires and foils, applying coatings, and tracing/organizing cabling.   
    • Upgrade and repair lab equipment, such as furnaces, power supplies, and tooling as needed.  
    • Assist with troubleshooting and contextualization of experimental results  
    • Meticulously document the experimental process from start to finish in a format that is easily and immediately accessible to others 
    • Independently execute on one or more focused projects to improve lab operations and reinforce our safety culture 
    • Organize and catalog of samples, tools, and equipment  
    • Write, organize, and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lab equipment and activities 

What You'll Bring to ETS

    • At least 2 years of professional experience in a hands-on laboratory or precision machine shop environment. 
    • Ability to methodically execute precise experimental tasks with a high degree of repeatability and attention to detail, while documenting your processes.  
    • Working knowledge of laboratory or machine-shop safety procedures 
    • Demonstrated commitment to adhering to workplace safety procedures and contributing to safety culture  
    • Ability to manage technically complex tasks with a high degree of independence  
    • Comfort working with your hands and safely and effectively using power tools such as saws, drills, and grinders.  
    • An enthusiastic approach and resilience in the face of challenging technical problems 
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or other data management software
