Senior Tax Accountant
We are searching for a Senior Tax Accountant to work either 100% remotely (with a
preference for either pacific time or mountains time zones) or in the Austin, TX office.
You will report to the Tax Manager and assist with ensuring accurate, timely filings of all
direct tax (including ASC 740 provision, return compliance) and indirect sales & use tax,
property tax, business licensing, annual report matters.
 
Responsibilities:
·  Assist with overall direct and indirect tax planning, preparation, and filing of returns
ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws.
·   Monitor due dates and coordinate preparation of all tax filings (income tax, franchise tax,
sales tax, property tax), annual reports, business licenses and other government
compliance reporting.
·   Assist with all aspects of sales tax compliance including continuous nexus review across
acquired subsidiaries, managing state & local sales tax audits including voluntary
disclosure agreements, addressing potential liability exposure gaps.
·   Track changes in sales tax laws and regulations and ensure that the organization
remains compliant with evolving requirements (specifically “parking taxes”).
·   Assist 3rd party firms with both federal and state corporate income tax return preparation
plus state & local sales tax return filing (Tax Valet) and reconciliations.
·  Collaborate with internal stakeholders on business license cataloging, maintenance plus secretary of state annual report reinstatements (specifically Illinois).
·  Analyze fixed asset subledger schedules (hardware-as-a-service type lease
agreements) as it pertains to localized property tax filings.
·  Assist with AVALARA sales tax engine state matrix & mapping codes, plus resale /
exemption certificate validation.
·  Respond to internal tax related ad-hoc inquires and external 3rd party advisors on special
projects (tracking state & local controversy items).
 
Qualifications:
·  B.S. in Accounting or MST in Taxation (CPA preferred but not required).
·  5-7 years experience dealing with tax audit processes and government exam agents or
equivalent, knowledge and skills to conduct face-to-face communications with federal
and state auditors in a mature and professional manner.
·  5-7 years experience preparing and reviewing State and Local tax returns, including
Sales and Use tax, and Federal and State Income tax or equivalent general tax
experience.
·  Strong understanding of federal and state corporate income tax, franchise tax, sales tax
rules, financial statements and GAAP accounting.
·   Knowledge of and skills in tax research methodologies, resources, and web-based tax
research search engines (AVALARA Tax Research f/k/a TTRUS).
·   Ability to research, interpret, summarize and implement tax regulations, instructions or
other applicable tax and accounting rules as required.
·   Experience and skills in interpreting information from various sources, in presenting
business cases to and influencing high-level 3rd party stakeholders.
·   Verbal and written communication skills, including correct grammar, appropriate word
choice, precision, conciseness, structure, appropriate tone and level of detail for
audience.
·   Preferred system knowledge of AVALARA sales tax engine, NetSuite & Sage Intacct (for
general ledger), Google LOOKER (data business intelligence reporting), RAMP (credit
card expense management), CT Corporation (annual SOS reporting).
$87,000 - $98,000 a year
