Fathom5 is an industrial technology company building security-first Brilliant Machines to accelerate Industry 4.0. Our work requires us to think critically, act boldly, and move quickly.

Fathom5 is a security-first industrial technology company creating Brilliant Machines™. We are looking for a Product Owner to take over our portfolio of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) projects. This role comes with a unique opportunity to lead the first integrations of artificial intelligence (AI) aboard U.S. Navy warships.
Developments in recent years have allowed extensive instrumentation of industrial equipment, and together with better tools for analyzing data, this enables a new paradigm for condition-based maintenance of complex systems. This paradigm shift, called CBM, uses real-time data to prioritize and predict maintenance actions instead of relying on planned maintenance intervals. Fathom5’s CBM systems run analytics from a multitude of providers to determine equipment health and schedule maintenance only when it is necessary. Effective CBM leads to greater equipment availability and reduced maintenance costs.
Fathom5 has a growing portfolio of CBM projects, including development of the U.S. Navy program of record for CBM. Leading and guiding this portfolio requires an agile product owner, technologist, and business leader. The CBM Product Owner will lead teams of engineers, communicate with users and stakeholders in both technical and nontechnical audiences, and champion the importance of AI-enabled technologies for the modern warfighter.
AI-enabled CBM for military assets is brand new. As a result, there is a very small pool of candidates with experience across the disciplines of data science, equipment maintenance, agile software development for government systems, tactical edge infrastructure as a service (IaaS), tactical edge platform as a service (PaaS), military-grade cybersecurity, and hybrid cloud architectures – all of which are implemented within Fathom5’s CBM portfolio. Therefore, successful candidates for this position will bring leadership experience in several, but not all of these areas.  The distinguishing characteristic of a successful candidate for this unique opportunity is the desire and discipline to quickly learn about the processes and technologies where they may have resume gaps across the disciplines implemented in our CBM portfolio.

The Fathom5 Condition Based Maintenance Portfolio Product Owner will:

    • Articulate the vision for Fathom5’s growing portfolio of CBM projects. At the beginning of 2024 there are three CBM projects in the portfolio with growth opportunities in each individual project and growth opportunities in the portfolio to add more projects.
    • Lead teams of engineers, data scientists, user experience designers, and other business and technical specialists to deliver the Fathom5 CBM vision
    • Manage the product development schedule, strategy, and design through the life cycle of each CBM project
    • Communicate with customers and partners to coordinate requirement for schedule and technical priorities between internal and external stakeholders
    • Establish budgets and manage accounts for labor, travel, and other expenses to deliver CBM capabilities at predicted cost
    • Mitigate technical and schedule risks in each project and inform other leaders of impending issues that could impede on-time delivery
    • Implement a robust quality assurance program to ensure CBM platforms meet the capabilities expected by customers
    • Support the development of CBM project proposals to expand the Fathom5 CBM portfolio

The Fathom5 Condition Based Maintenance Portfolio Product Owner position requires:

    • Clear and effective communication – Written and oral communication skills sufficient to explain programmatic and technical material to team members and external stakeholders.
    • Quick learning and problem-solving – The ability and desire to learn new technologies swiftly and enact decisive solutions.
    • Passion – A natural disposition for hard work that leads to successful project delivery.
    • Initiative – The desire to lead by example and take proactive measures to address whatever is required in the pursuit of meeting project goals.
    • Team-first mentality – The ability and desire to work in a team environment.
    • Startup Stamina – Fathom5 is changing the world at the intersection of industrial systems and advanced software. Sometimes changing the world requires long hours, climbing through ships, and medical clearance for carrying computer equipment as well as occasional travel in support of our customers.

The Fathom5 Condition Based Maintenance Portfolio Product Owner is a leadership position that emphasizes these credentials:

    • B.S. / B.A. from an accredited four-year university
    • 8+ years experience in a professional business environment
    • Prior leadership experience in industrial maintenance and/or software product development
    • Active DoD security clearance, or the desire and ability to be cleared
    • Military and/or DoD work experience is a plus
Ultimately, a top-tier Condition Based Maintenance Portfolio Product Owner is a vital Fathom5 leader with direct oversight of the military’s adoption of CBM and more broadly AI. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of change in a world that is just coming to understand the full potential of AI and its useful, safe, and appropriate applications. This role provides the opportunity to be a leader in this time of change, and a partner in helping Fathom5 realize our vision of Brilliant Machines™.
