The Body Technician is responsible for repairing and restoring damaged vehicles to their pre-accident condition. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards. The technician will work with various repair tools and equipment, ensuring high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Pre-scan:
    • Conduct a comprehensive fault code scan before repairs begin to identify any existing issues that may affect the repair process.
    • Document and report any fault codes to ensure transparency and informed decision-making.
    • Tear Down:
    • Carefully disassemble damaged vehicle components, including panels, bumpers, and other parts.
    • Label and store removed parts systematically to facilitate reassembly.
    • Inspect and document any additional damage discovered during the tear-down process.
    • Remove any non-damaged parts that may be affected during repairs to ensure a thorough restoration.
    • Writing Supplement:
    • Assess the vehicle after tear down to identify any hidden damage.
    • Create a detailed list of additional needed repairs for the estimator.
    • Collaborate with the estimator to ensure all necessary repairs are accurately captured and submitted for approval.
    • Repair and Restoration:
    • Perform body repairs using techniques such as welding, straightening, and replacement of damaged panels.
    • Utilize proper repair techniques to restore vehicle structural integrity.
    • Build:
    • Reassemble vehicles by reinstalling all removed parts and components.
    • Ensure all fasteners and connections are secure and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
    • Verify proper fit and alignment of all reinstalled parts, making adjustments as necessary.
    • Post Scan:
    • Conduct a fault code scan after repairs are completed to ensure that all systems are functioning correctly and that no new issues have arisen.
    • Document and address any new fault codes identified during this process, ensuring the vehicle meets quality standards before delivery.
    • Quality Control:
    • Conduct thorough inspections of repaired and reassembled areas to ensure compliance with industry standards.
    • Perform final checks before vehicles are returned to customers, ensuring all repairs meet quality expectations.
    • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other technicians, service advisors, and management to coordinate repair processes.
    • Provide clear communication about repair timelines and any additional repairs required.
    • Monitor the whiteboard and promptly move magnets as vehicle status changes.
    • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Stay updated on industry standards and best practices related to collision repair.
    • Continuous Improvement:
    • Engage in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge in collision repair techniques and technologies.
    • Participate in team meetings to discuss challenges, share knowledge, and improve processes.

Performance Expectations:

    • Timely completion of repairs within estimated time frames.
    • Consistent quality of work with minimal rework required.
    • Effective communication with team members and customers.
    • Adherence to safety and operational procedures at all times.

Accountability:

    • The Collision Body Technician is expected to take ownership of assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and uphold the standards of the organization. Regular performance evaluations will be conducted to assess adherence to these responsibilities and overall contributions to the team. Failure to meet these expectations may result in additional training or disciplinary action.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • At least 5 years of body technician experience
    • Must be a team player and have a professional attitude - culture is everything!
    • Must own your own tools (we provide specialty tools)
    • Strong work ethic with a willingness to adapt and learn
    • Physical Demands:
    • Must be able to lift more than 50lbs without assistance
    • Must be able to get into and out of various vehicles without assistance.
    • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle with passengers.
    • Must be able to walk / stand for 90% of the day.
    • Must be able to work in various weather conditions.
