Flare Therapeutics is a biotechnology company pioneering a new therapeutic space with a novel approach to decipher the biology of transcription factors to develop small molecule medicines. Based on insights from the seminal work of its scientific founders, Flare’s team has uncovered ‘switch sites,’ druggable regions that are key targets for transcription factor regulation, to address mutations that cause disease. Flare’s drug discovery efforts to target switch sites has rapidly advanced, resulting in an emerging pipeline of research programs that address well-validated genetically-defined transcription factors, initially focused on precision oncology with future potential in neurology, rare genetic disorders, immunology and inflammation.
We are a collective of brilliant fires, trailblazing a path to conquer transcription factors and create cutting-edge medicines for patients. We embrace diversity in all its forms, experiences, and viewpoints. We are inspired by the unknown and willing to take risks. We are passionate about the science we pursue and compassionate about the patients it stands to benefit. And we respect, value, and believe in each other.

Join a multidisciplinary team that combines cutting-edge biochemistry, chemical biology with high resolution mass spectrometry to unlock “undruggable” transcription factors with precision driven drug discovery. The Senior Scientist will have the opportunity to play a key role in driving forward early-stage transcription factor targets using mass spectrometry focused proteomics, high-throughput tandem mass tags (TMT), automated workflows with a focus on targeted, global and PTM workflows. The candidate will also be responsible for developing, deploying, and designing new state-of-the-art workflows for screening large chemical libraries focused on transcription factors.

In this role you will...

    • Design and execute experiments to inform target engagement on transcription factors using a variety of approaches that include cell culture, TR-FRET, in-gel fluorescence, and characterization using mass-spectrometry based proteomics
    • Lead projects for developing and optimizing existing or new methods for sample preparation, with a focus on transcription factors
    • Develop in vitro and in vivo readouts for novel transcription factor targets using global and target-focused proteomic approaches
    • Develop and execute high-throughput global proteomics characterization of transcription factors using isotope labeling and TMT
    • Use organizational and communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues in early discovery, biology, chemical biology, and biochemistry
    • Document and present data with experimental conclusions at project team, department, and company meetings

About you...

    • You have a PhD in chemical biology or biochemistry
    • You have 3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience
    • You have hands-on experience in mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics that includes but is not limited to: DDA, Intact-MS, HDX, LFQ, TMT, SILAC
    • You have hands on experience maintaining and running mass spectrometry equipment, Orbitrap experience is preferred
    • You have hands on experience collecting, analyzing, and interoperating proteomics datasets generated from biological samples, R/python experience is preferred but not required
    • You have prior experience with assay development, in vitro cell culturing, HPLC fractionation and studying mechanisms of target engagement using small molecules
    • You have experience with biochemical assays using both 96 and 384 well plates and various detection methods
    • You have a desire to work in a fast-paced collaborative multi-tasking environment with creativity, innovation, and communication
    • You have great decision making, organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
