Role
We're looking for a passionate mechanical engineer to focus on enabling Gantri’s strategic hardware plan around additive and subtractive manufacturing. Our automated manufacturing R&D factory has plenty of opportunities to develop new exciting technology solutions. This role would closely collaborate with the industrial design and production teams to improve the existing digital manufacturing hardware as well as develop next generation hardware that will make Gantri as a company grow within the consumer space. Exciting projects coming up are expanding our digital manufacturing capability to deal with different types of materials and automating our factory through AI, computer vision, robotics, and other manufacturing techniques. We view each engineer as a true product engineer with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.
We are a lean, fast-moving team that prefers to avoid meetings and focus 100% on driving impact.
Responsibilities
- Work independently to drive hardware projects successfully to completion
- Apply structured problem solving approach (e.g. - Shainin, 6-Sigma, 5 whys, etc) to identify root causes and to implement solutions that continuously improves existing or new hardware system reliability and efficiency
- Collaborate with the manufacturing, industrial design teams to implement solutions that continuously improve the manufacturing process yield and equipment reliability
- Design and develop high quality, highly reliable mechanical and electromechanical systems for Gantri’s on-demand digital manufacturing factory
- Apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, mechatronics and materials to develop digital manufacturing hardware solutions
- Conduct tests to ensure the solutions developed are robust and meets the intended functional requirements prior to implementation in Gantri’s digital manufacturing factory
- Collaborate with other engineering and product teams to develop complex cross-functional features
Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering or similar discipline
- 5+ years experience and demonstrated proficiency in project management, problem solving, designing, building and testing and installing high-productivity electromechanical hardware systems
- Deep expertise in mechanical design with an understanding of precision/manufacturing engineering
- Experience with at least one CAD software system including but not limited to: Autodesk, Solidworks, etc.
- Experience in 3D Printing (e.g. Fused Deposition Modeling) and knowledge of slicing software (e.g. Cura)
- Strong team player with excellent communication skills and a high degree of ownership and drive
