The Role

The Heirloom team is on a path to creating a sustainable, scalable, and economically viable carbon removal system. This technology - which requires a unique blend of geology, chemistry, industrial engineering, and process engineering -  doesn’t yet exist at the scales necessary to make a difference, so we need to build it ourselves. 

The Regeneration Process Development Engineer Internship is a Summer opportunity for a current graduate students to get involved with Heirloom’s regeneration work. This role specifically works with our high temperature regeneration process in via reactor modeling, hydrodynamics, and fluidization, as well as hands on reactor operation and optimization. The focus is on developing robust and innovative process pathways and parameters to enable low cost carbon removal.

The Process Development Engineer Internship is available to students currently working on or recently graduated with a B.S., M.S., or PhD in Engineering (such as Chemical  Engineering, Reaction Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) with a background in fluidization, hydrodynamics, heat transfer, reaction kinetics, and/or rector dynamics.

What you will do

    • Design and carry out experiments involving high temperature reactions.
    • Perform routine materials characterization.
    • Assist in developing heat transfer and hydrodynamic models.
    • Interpret, document, and communicate test results.
    • Work as a part of a team of world-class scientists and engineers to execute on our development plans, with an urgency rooted in the importance of our mission. 

Minimum Qualifications

    • Working towards a BS, MS, PhD in chemical or mechanical engineering.
    • Experience in reaction and/or fluidization engineering, and reaction modeling and/or reactor design.
    • Experience working with Python
    • Self-motivated and willing to learn and adapt in a fast-paced organization.
