Kyverna Therapeutics is a patient-centered, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing cell therapies for patients suffering from autoimmune diseases. The Kyverna therapeutic platform leverages advanced T cell engineering to suppress and eliminate autoreactive immune cells at the origin of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Be at the forefront of cell therapy innovation by joining scientists, industry veterans and healthcare visionaries and help transform how autoimmune diseases are treated

Kyverna is recruiting a highly motivated Scientist I in its Research organization to help advance its mission to free patients from the siege of autoimmune disease. Reporting to an Associate Director of Research, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing in vitro and in vivo preclinical assays to evaluate human CAR-T cell phenotype and functionality, in support of Kyverna’s pipeline programs. This includes designing and executing in vitro flow cytometry assays and cytokine secretion analyses, and the use of in vivo mouse models to evaluate the potency and persistence of engineered CAR-T cells. The ideal candidate will contribute to our goals of navigating what’s next in synthetic biology, immunology and cell engineering while living our core values: Bring Intellectual Rigor, Elevate Each Other, and Stay True To Why.

Responsibilities:

    • Design and perform preclinical in vitro assays evaluating the phenotype and functional activity of engineered CAR-T cells
    • Design and perform or assist preclinical in vivo assays evaluating the potency, biodistribution, and persistence of CAR-T cells in mouse models
    • Analyze data and communicate results clearly and effectively to program teams, senior leadership, and other colleagues
    • Work cross-functionally with Scientists and Research Associates across departments to advance program objectives
    • Mentor, support, and collaborate closely with other research team members, with the opportunity to grow into an increasing leadership role
    • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

    • Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Immunology, Cell Biology, or a related scientific discipline, with 0-2 years of postdoctoral experience in human T cell immunology or CAR-T cells
    • Alternatively, M.S. degree (or equivalent) with 7+ years of experience in the fields of human T cell immunology or CAR-T cells
    • High level of proficiency and independence performing multicolor flow cytometry, cytokine analysis methods, and other functional and phenotypic assays for in vitro characterization of T cells
    • Experience with in vivo animal models, including but not limited to autoimmune disease models, immunodeficient mouse models, and CAR-T functional models, is highly desirable
    • Experience with CAR-specific functional assays (cytotoxicity, cytokine release, proliferation) is preferred
    • Strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to apply rigorous and creative thinking to address complex research problems
    • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities, and ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team to achieve shared objectives
    • Technical attention to detail, and experience in maintaining rigorous lab documentation
    • Resourcefulness in overcoming challenges, and the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to communicate results (verbal and written) effectively in a cross-functional team environment
