The Role:
Lycia Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller to join our growing and dynamic team. As an integral member of the Company, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, implementing financial systems, building out policies and controls, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP. This role will routinely partner with others across multiple functions will be key in building out the accounting team.  This position reports to the VP of Finance and is based in South San Francisco, California.

Responsibilities:

    • Lead the execution of the financial close process including preparation of journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, US GAAP financial statement reporting, ensuring completion in an accurate and timely manner
    • Manage the accrual process for the Company, including the accruals for R&D contracts and Clinical & CMC expenses, ensuring all accruals are complete, accurately computed, documented, and recorded
    • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, payroll, equity, corporate credit card program, and employee expense processing
    • Partner with VP of Finance to develop and implement new policies and procedures, process improvements and financial applications to support growth and increasing complexity of business activities
    • Compile information for tax provisions and tax returns as prepared by third-party tax consultants
    • Ensure compliance with sales and use tax, property taxes and other tax related reporting requirements
    • Manage annual business licenses and corporate insurance renewals
    • Strengthen our internal control environment to include implementing and managing an internal control program compliant with the Sarbanes Oxley 404 requirements
    • Oversee financial audits (including preparation of PBCs and coordination with external auditors)
    • Other duties and projects, as needed

Required Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field;
    • 8+ years’ work experience in Accounting, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
    • CPA and/or Big Four experience preferred
    • Thorough understanding of US GAAP, accounting operations and financial accounting systems
    • Strong analytical skills, highly organized, exceptional attention to detail, and results driven
    • Ability to solve problems proactively and independently
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with multiple functional areas in a collaborative, team environment
    • Highly proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office Suites applications
$140,000 - $155,000 a year
The expected base salary range for this role is $140,000 - 155,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there is often flexibility on job title and responsibilities. Compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications and internal equity.
