In Farmington Hills, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

The scope of work is within Mercedes-Benz Cars as well as Mercedes-AMG for conventional, electrified and Hybrid powertrains in current development and Lifecycle-Management projects.

Manage Powertrain EE, Software Development team. Own, specify and develop functions, validate and release test the powertrain Software functions/ functionalities. Collect, track and resolve issues in designated areas. Identify and initiate areas/topics with potential to expand/grow the cooperation between Germany and USA.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Team management:
    • Manage and be the owner of assigned software functions. Depending on project needs, the assigned functions can be one or any combination of following features: Networking (CAN/FlexRay/LIN), Thermal Management, Torque Monitoring, safety features, torque coordination, starter control, alternator control, trip display, engine start-stop as well as HiL and SiL testing and validation.
    • Plan human resources, cost and other related resources per project needs. Define job description for team members. Identify and hire talents. Set up goals with team members and provide performance evaluation annually. Provide coaching and feedback during daily work. Motivate and empower team members to maximize productivity. Create and maintain a safe and friendly working environment. Act proactively to insure compliance with law and company policies.
    • Project management:
    • Collect and communicate project planning, milestones and deadlines to the team. Identify skills and resource gaps. Acquire trainings and provide resources so that team members can perform at their full capacity. Identify risks and resolve bottlenecks through frequent follow up of project progress. Ensure the quality of work products and deliveries meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Initiate and moderate lessons learned to achieve continuous improvement.
    • Release testing and issue resolution:
    • Be the owner of assigned In-house SW Cal.. Be the user of powertrain SiL/HiL test benches. Delegate and assign function ownership to team members with matching skills. Create, implement and maintain overall testing strategy. Review In-house SW Cal tasks validation/documentation tasks, testing goals, test procedures, and testing results. Collect issues from internal partners, customers and suppliers. Make sure all issues are resolved in a timely manner. Communicate issue resolution status and final results to all relevant parties. Provide release recommendation to senior management.
    • Business development and initiative:
    • Establish effective working relationship and trust with internal customers. Explore possibility to expand cooperation with German counterparts and internal partners. Support senior management to initiate and setup new work packages. Take initiatives to identify and fill in gaps in achieving overall project goals. Adopt and promote changes across teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or Master's in electrical, mechanical, automotive engineering or related fields
    • Intercultural competence in understanding and presenting complicated engineering problems and solutions to management
    • Proven track-record in leading and managing an engineering team
    • Experience on engineering fundamentals, automotive powertrain, internal combustion engines
    • Hand-on experiences on SiL/HIL, dynamometer and/or vehicle
    • Self-motivated working attitude to take full ownership of assigned functions
    • Strong planning and organizational skills
    • Be able to work together with many contacts and counterparts
    • High commitment and flexibility for task assignment
    • Professional appearance and confidence in making engineering decisions
    • Be able to travel inside and outside USA
    • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

    • German language skills is a plus
