Our Mercedes-Benz Research and Development, Inc. Long Beach office is looking for a EV Interoperability Testing Engineer Engineer to support our Research and Development sponsors in the development and release of hardware and software for Battery Electric and Plug-in EV Vehicles. Specifically, the engineer validates the interoperability of the EV Charging Systems with the EV charging infrastructure. This is a full-time, exempt position at the MBRDNA regional office in Long Beach, CA.
Interoperability testing will be conducted with prototype vehicles and the focus will be Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. The majority of testing locations are in the Southern California area however, domestic travel is required in some cases. The person should also constantly re-evaluate the priorities based on the customer feedback, market changes and business priorities. This position provides daily challenges in a collaborative work environment where people enjoy working together.
The US Experience division drives to establish Mercedes-Benz as a technology leader in the US luxury segment by translating the combined One Voice US strategy to customers in impactful propositions that enhance the customer experience. The goal of the Charging Team is to deliver technical research, testing results, and broad knowledge that can influence and drive innovation in the US market in terms of improved vehicle features at different touch points throughout the Charging customer journey.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform charging interoperability testing with prototype test vehicles in lab & field settings.
- Troubleshoot interoperability charging communication issues primarily on DC fast charging.
- Collect & analyze PLC charging communication & vehicle CAN data.
- Understand SAE and ISO standards & develop test cases for interoperability testing.
- Update Test Vehicles with Hardware and/or Software and perform smoke tests to ensure successful updates.
- Ensure Charging System (components and software) operation by monitoring logs and communications between ECUs.
- Collaborate with headquarter counterpart teams on system functionality & maintain targets & testing/validation milestones.
- Participate in charging interoperability testing symposiums (Charin, ACT) & collaborate with industry across CPOs, EVSE Manufacturers, & OEMs.
- Collect feedback & develop interoperability technical requirements for US specific system/feature implementation.
- Participate in technical working groups across different locations and units in the US to align priorities and coordinate efforts.
- Generate regular project reports.
- Plan and manage development activities in support of project plans/ budgets by mplacing work & part orders as necessary to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Regular and proactive communication to management of project issues, delays, risks with potential solutions and needed resources.
- Maintain high awareness of the EV charging infrastructure in the USA to align our testing efforts to match the EVSE type and supplier market share.
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering
- Experience in automotive component development at a tier 1 or OEM
- Minimum 2 years of electric vehicle experience
- Familiar with High Voltage EE system development and vehicle integration
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills
- Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic and analysis tools such as CAN/CANalyzer, ETAS/Inca/Monaco
- Excellent level Microsoft Office package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Problem-solving skills

- Frequent use of speech, vision, hearing, use of hands for computer use and presentations
- Frequent sitting, standing, driving, and reaching with hands

Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong engineering experience in charging communication standards & vehicle charging testing methodologies

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $99,100 - $124,000.
