Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc. (MBRDNA) is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join the US Experience team. This is a full-time, exempt position with the option to work remotely in states in the continuous US or from one of our MBRDNA office locations in Long Beach, CA, Seattle, WA, Farmington Hills, MI, Ann Arbor, MI or Sunnyvale, CA.

The US Experience team drives to establish Mercedes-Benz as a technology leader in the US luxury segment. Our team develops, tests, and validates US Software applications in order to deliver the best US customer experience possible. We perform product research to influence and drive innovation and improve vehicle features at different touch points throughout the customer journey. We all contribute to a combined One Voice US strategy that drives impactful propositions that create market pull and enhance our customer’s experience.

We are looking for a Senior Android Developer responsible for the development and maintenance of applications aimed at a range of Android devices including mobile phones and wearables as well as Android Automotive features embedded in the vehicle’s infotainment system. Your primary focus will be development of mobile application features and their integration with back-end services- (including the interaction with Mercedes Benz vehicles). Become a key team member of our Mercedes me product team with direct daily collaboration with PO, SCRUM master, Developers, UI/UX Designers, Testers and other supporting functions. You will be working alongside other engineers and global development teams working on different layers of the infrastructure. Therefore, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and the creation of quality products is essential.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Design and build features for the Android app Mercedes me connect (USA)
    • Lead Android feature implementation architecture/strategy and align them with stakeholders
    • Write well structured, documented, tested and maintainable code
    • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application
    • Collaborate with a global teams to define, design, and ship new features
    • Proactive approach for root cause analysis of issues and their resolution
    • Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs identified by the QA team
    • Proactively collaborate with Product and UX Designer to understand acceptance criteria design requirements of new features and stories
    • Accurate pointing of stories during SCRUM refinement sessions in order to complete stories in estimated time
    • Responsible to maintain code and pull request quality
    • Ability to break down pull requests to small junks to ensure smooth code review / merge
    • Review and approve pull requests of other developers
    • Ensure readiness for publication to Google and in car app store
    • Contributing to team KPI’s and OKR’s by focusing on the defined road map items
    • Competitor benchmarking in order to make recommended enhancements
    • Mentoring of more junior developers and best practice sharing/documentation
    • Peer programming and shadowing sessions to foster continues learning and improvement
    • Ability to work in global environment with peers from Germany, India and China
    • Utilize diverse opinions and cultural backgrounds to improve our products
    • 25% of travel may be required for this position

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Computer Engineering consider: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field of study
    • 5+ years of relevant experience
    • Multiple years of native Android development experience
    • Solid understanding of design patterns, coroutines and Architecture Components
    • Strong Kotlin coding skills
    • Dependency Injection (Koin or Dagger)
    • Jetpack Compose
    • Solid understanding of mobile architectures, such as MVI, MVVM and Solid principles
    • Hand on experience writing unit tests
    • Experience in creating custom, pixel-perfect UIs
    • Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms, such as Jenkins
    • Solid understanding of Google Developer guidelines
    • Quick adaptation to Mercedes internal development model and coding guidelines / stylistics
    • Experience in Agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban
    • Exceptional time management and ownership for assigned tasked and feature developments
    • Lean and agile mindset
    • Frequent use of speech, vision, hearing, use of hands for computer use and presentations
    • Frequent sitting, standing and reaching with hands

Preferred Qualifications:

    • R&D Engineering experience with focus on vehicles & Mercedes Benz products
    • Working knowledge of Infotainment / Telematics / Connected services
    • Backend Development experience
    • Track record of published mobile apps
The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $100,000 - $168,800.
