The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

Mercedes-Benz Seattle Hub is looking for a Principal Infrastructure Cloud professional with AWS and Azure experience. The qualified candidate should have a deep understanding of cloud architecture and security, extensive experience leading, implementing, and configuring AWS cloud, resources, and services.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Hands-on coding is required for this role
    • Act as a solution architect for product development teams in need of cloud infrastructure expertise
    • Examine technical risks of existing network/system and application architectures (IAAS/PAAS/SAAS) against correlating policies and risks, and provide appropriate remediation or risk reduction plans
    • Code/Implement guardrails to enable self-service and frictionless delivery allowing teams to build and own end-to-end applications and services in the cloud
    • valuate emerging technologies and make recommendations for integrating with existing cloud solutions to improve mission impact
    • Transition POC solutions into full product offerings, maturing engineering processes and procedures, as well as solidifying architecture to enable scalability and security
    • Provide consulting on best practices to internal customers to ensure processes are embedded at the correct time and frequency and to ensure compliance to security standards
    • Establish effective communication with users, other technical teams, and management to give transparency to project milestones, validate direction and new feature work, technical solutions and scope-changing issues
    • Demonstrate, through explanation and/or “whiteboard” sessions, fundamental grasp of infrastructure architecture design and workflows
    • Provide mentorship to team members to elevate both soft and technical skills of the collective team

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree – Computer Science, Computer Engineering
    • Experience leading a mature Cloud Infrastructure Engineering program
    • Recent, hands-on experience with AWS/Azure services, best practices, and solutions architecture activities, observability tooling, containerization workflows (AKS, EKS), API design, and development of full-stack web applications
    • Fluency in multiple programming/scripting languages (Python, Bash, Java) with an emphasis on tuning, optimization and best practices for development
    • Experience with automated provisioning of multistage deployment environments using Infrastructure as a Code (Terraform)
    • Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, along with performance characteristics
    • Knowledge of security practices as they pertain to ecommerce application environments
    • Hands on expertise with code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
    • Capable of driving technical discussions across teams to reduce ambiguity and create technical specifications
    • Valid US Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Current AWS/Azure cloud architect or cloud developer certification
    • Extended experience with API design, load balancing, containerization, disaster recovery and leveraging IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS
    • Professional experience with network engineering and enterprise technologies
    • Experience with CI/CD processes and pipelines
The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $168,600 - $215,000.
