Mamo is hiring a Legal Counsel to be the steady pair of hands that keeps our deals moving and our governance tight. You’ll work across the business - contracts, corporate governance (board packs, resolutions, filings - the fun stuff), commercial negotiations, the occasional regulatory thing (we’re a licensed entity, after all), and being the person everyone Slacks when they need something “reviewed quickly.”
This role partners closely with Product, Risk, Finance, and Compliance. If you like bringing structure to a startup environment and can run without constant hand‑holding, you’ll feel right at home.

What you will do
- Own commercial contracting end‑to‑end: Draft, review, and negotiate merchant, partner, and supplier agreements, NDAs, SaaS/MSAs, and other contracts.
- Run the governance cadence: Prepare and circulate board packs, draft minutes/resolutions, and handle filings (UAE and relevant free zones/jurisdictions) with rigor and speed.
- Be our first responder: Triage urgent “can you review this quickly?” requests, set priorities, and keep business timelines unblocked.
- Support commercial negotiations: Join calls, mark up redlines, propose pragmatic positions, and close loops with stakeholders.
- Handle light regulatory work: Assist with licensing updates, notifications, and correspondence with regulators; help track obligations.
- Tidy the legal engine: Maintain templates and clause libraries, keep signature and approval flows moving, and help improve processes, playbooks, and our contract repository.
- Coordinate with external counsel when needed and liaise with external firms on discrete matters, making sure advice is actionable for the business.
- Assist in handling disputes, debt recovery, and regulatory complaints; coordinate strategy and ensure timely responses.
What we’re looking for
- 3-5 years’ legal experience, including meaningful UAE exposure (in-house for a fintech startup a plus)
- Experience working within the UAE and its various free zones as well as other GCC markets
- Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and legal issues related to fintech and digital payments
- Clear, concise communicator; comfortable context‑switching and meeting fast turnaround times
- Extremely tech‑savvy and quick on the keys. A genuine power user of Google Docs/Sheets; fast with redlines, comments, styles, and formatting; comfortable with collaboration tools (e.g., email/Slack), e‑signature, and basic CLM/automation
- Comfortable context‑switching and you can juggle multiple matters, keep tight notes, and maintain speed and accuracy under time pressure
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Confident with contracts, corporate governance, and commercial law
