We are seeking a new addition to our technical team in Gatineau, Quebec to manage our backend for We Heart It, a social platform with over 500K DAU and 60M lifetime users, as well as other apps and games we operate.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining highly scalable and available backend services, initiating database updates and changes, as well as updating and maintaining internal dashboards and tools. In partnership with our mobile development team, you will also create APIs to support new feature development for Web and Mobile. You will also be responsible for leading backend bug fixes and troubleshooting technical issues to ensure we maintain a high quality product that users love. 7+ years experience as a fullstack developer
Backend experience with: Ruby on Rails and PHP
Database experience with: MySQL, Memcache, Redis, Cassandra, ElasticSearch
Knowledge in server administration: nginx, Apache on Linux, AWS (EC2, CloudWatch, ElastiCache, S3)
Familiarity with: Docker, Jenkins, build systems
Familiarity with web architecture and protocols, distributed web systems (caching, databases, etc)
Familiarity with mobile app development
Startup minded individual that is inherently curious and is excited to take on the challenge of learning about new products, new languages and frameworks
Ability to prioritize tasks, provide accurate estimations and work on multiple initiatives simultaneously
Candidates should be able to live and work in Canada long term.
Must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the Gatineau / Ottawa area to work in-person with our team.
Work directly with Product team to design, build and ship backend features and fixes that power web and mobile applications
Join development meetings and work directly with iOS, Android and Web developers
Must be comfortable owning features end to end, from initial concept and design, to implementation, testing, release and post-release fixes and monitoring
Maintain and develop additional features for internal dashboards and reporting
Respond to incidents caused by bugs, or other backend related issues such as spam fighting, performance issues, etc.
