The Opportunity

Your primary responsibility will be to build industrial-strength, scalable PHP applications (both client-side and RESTful API). This will also mean contributing to application improvement and optimization through code audits, refactoring, and caching. You’ll implement new features, develop schema and unit tests, and maintain user interfaces. Most importantly, you’ll contribute to our innovation.

Additionally, we are committing to rebuilding some legacy applications using the latest and greatest technologies available. You will be able to contribute to a completely new stack of tools and applications built on open-source libraries.

What You'll Do

    • Work closely with other engineers to ensure performance targets are being met
    • Work within agile development life cycles and workflow for new product developments
    • Develop, implement and maintain object-oriented backend applications with PHP, MySQL, focusing on high-availability and performance
    • Write, review, document, and integrate efficient, compliant, tested, modular code
    • Analyze call stacks, trace files, debug logs or performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs, fix defects and identify areas for improvement
    • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to team members 
    • Analyze functional requirements (Stories) for new features and provide estimates for the level of development effort required using JIRA
    • Document solutions and participate in handoff meetings with QA and Implementation teams
    • Collaborate effectively with other developers, technical leadership, product managers, testers and internal and external business stakeholders to understand and gather requirements

What You Bring

    • 3+ year(s) of hands-on development experience
    • Experience with PHP as well as SQL based databases like MySQL
    • Experience building scalable and high-performance Rest APIs
    • Basic knowledge of integrations with 3rd party APIs (using SOAP or Rest API)
    • Strong knowledge of HTTP protocol: authorization, cache control, proxy
    • Strong interest in the security of web applications
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent

Nice To Haves

    • Experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g. New Relic)
    • Experience with open-source PHP libraries (such as Symfony, Doctrine)
    • Experience with Bash commandsUsed some form of queuing system to schedule tasks
