Summary

The Textiles & Fashion Designer position at OXMAN lies at the intersection of textile design, pattern making, and fashion, with a focus on the creation of wearables. This position will entail working closely with a team of designers to build new fabrication technologies as well as designing and prototyping projects spanning across scales and mediums. A holistic approach is taken toward work culture, communication, and collaboration with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of thinkers and makers, as well as with partners and contributors outside of the company.

Core Responsibilities

    • Design patterns and sew prototypes.
    • Develop in-house tools for augmenting and fabricating textiles.
    • Translate the team's sketches and ideas into practical design solutions, taking an open-minded and innovative approach to fabrication methods.
    • Construct complex and often unconventional forms using textiles.
    • Maintain a design library of patterns, textures, colors, concepts, and tools.
    • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, and designers.
    • Coordinate with textiles vendors and partners to ensure production is seamless.
    • Engage in design reviews, presentations, and other team development processes, providing constructive and timely feedback.

Qualifications & Competencies

    • MA or BA degree in textile design, fashion design, or relevant creative fields. 
    • Minimum 8 years of experience in a textiles/fashion design studio.
    • Portfolio demonstrating out-of-the-box thinking and stellar taste in design.
    • Previous experience working with CNC knitting machines and digital looms.
    • Advanced knowledge of woven and knitted structures as well as an awareness of fabric development in the industry. 
    • Strong sewing skills and an ability to properly construct garments. 
    • Proficient in 3D modeling tools such as Rhino and Grasshopper. 
    • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite. 
    • Excellent hand-sketching and visual communication skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong “maker” mindset and skill set.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
    • Independent, self-motivated, detail-oriented, accurate, and highly organized.
