Who We Are Looking For
Phoenix Tailings is seeking a driven, innovative Mechanical Engineer for the2nd cohort of our Leadership Development Program (LDP). This intensive program is designed for individuals ready to immerse themselves in complex mechanical systems, push their personal limits, and build the foundation for future leadership within the company. Success in this program will require dedication, a willingness to work long days and adapt to any shift the company needs, and the flexibility to step outside of traditional job descriptions to support critical projects.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical systems and subassemblies for rare earth metallization equipment, including high-temperature, corrosive, and vacuum-compatible components with scalability and first principles in mind.
- Perform thermal, structural, and fluid dynamics analysis using hand calculations and simulation tools to validate mechanical integrity.
- Translate conceptual designs into manufacturable components through CAD modeling and developing engineering drawings
- Own full lifecycle of prototype builds from CAD and vendor coordination to fabrication, assembly, testing, and iteration
- Work directly on the floor to resolve mechanical issues, validate performance, and implement design improvements quickly
- Collaborate cross-functionally with chemical, materials, controls, sourcing, production, and commercial teams to drive projects forward and deliver results under tight timelines.
- Lead equipment installation and scaling efforts across pilot and production systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Hands-on experience designing or building hardware for high-temperature, chemically reactive, or vacuum systems
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, controls, and mechanical design principles
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) and mechanical analysis tools (e.g., COMSOL or equivalent)
- Track record of solving ambiguous interdisciplinary problems in high-intensityenvironments and owning end-to-end projects
- Hands-on fabrication or prototyping experience (machining, welding, assembly)
- Deep interest in clean energy, industrial systems, and scaling physical technology from a lab and R&D setting to commercial production.
