Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Informatics Solution Architect to join our team.  The Informatics team supports the drug discovery scientists by managing, analyzing and storing experimental scientific data. The Senior Informatics Solution Architect will be responsible for designing and developing modern web applications and optimizing data analytics to streamline the R&D workflow and enabling data driven decisions. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and play a key role in supporting Plexium’s ultra-high throughput drug discovery efforts.

Essential Job Responsibilities

    • Design, develop and deploy reproducible computational data workflows and data analytics tools
    • Produce high quality, well documented code that is robust, efficient, testable and consistent
    • Audit, generate, and implement best practices for existing codebase and prior development strategies.  Make recommendations, improvements, and documentation where needed
    • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle to influence cross-functional teams and to identify high-impact, data-driven opportunities
    • Execute manual or automated tests or verification and validation of software applications. Champion test driven development
    • Generate required product development documentation including functional specifications and design documents
    • Work with scientists to understand their data and analysis needs, then develop prototype analysis tools that validate methods and guide further development
    • Manage stakeholder expectations on project scope, deliverables and timelines
    • Works closely with other engineers to collaborate in the areas of coding standards, and system related issues
    • Design, write and deliver Infrastructure as Code
    • Advocate for Agile and DevOps methodologies and keep abreast of emerging technologies

Required Education and Experience

    • BA/BS in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or related discipline
    • 5+ years of full stack software development experience in the biopharmaceutical realm
    • Programming skills in JavaScript, Java, Python, R, SQL, NoSQL, or other languages
    • Experience in structured software and systems development and integration, including experience in software design methodologies, design patterns, component-oriented software architecture
    • 2+ years of experience building software on top of major container technology (Kubernetes, Docker, or similar)
    • Expert with modern software development best practices, CI/CD processes, and version control processes
    • Experience with HPC and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP and Azure, and familiarity with container technologies such as docker and singularity
    • Experience working with AWS-based infrastructure, especially Aurora Postgres, Batch, Glue, and S3
    • Experience with Infrastructure as Code frameworks such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure ARM (Terraform preferred)

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

    • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics
    • Good knowledge of the drug discovery process from screening to candidate selection
    • Experience with automation and informatics platforms KNIME or Pipeline Pilot
    • Experience with visual analytics tools preferred (e.g., Spotfire, Tableau, Qlik, etc.)
    • Familiarity with Sharepoint, CDD, Spotfire, Smartsheets
    • Machine learning knowledge is a plus
    • Detailed oriented, systematic, and rapid learner
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills
    • A proactive and self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and scientific rigor, ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple objectives in parallel and adapt to changing priorities
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all stakeholders
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $100,000-$160,000 + target annual bonus + equity + health and well-being benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to the role, location, job-related skills, and relevant education, experience and training. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire base salaries for the position across all US locations and vary by the location of the position. Our Talent Acquisition Team can share more about our salary ranges and other benefits of working at Plexium, which are not included in the posted base salary range.
