About the role:
We are seeking talented data engineers from mid to senior levels to join StubHub’s Data team. In this role you will be responsible for designing and building the underlying systems and pipelines for centralizing StubHub’s internal plus third-party data. Our team's goal is to empower organizations across the company to transform data for analysis and reporting, new product development, experimentation, and machine learning. This includes developing the core infrastructure for the data lake and data warehouse, creating foundational data models and data pipelines, and building shared tooling to ease the process of creating high-quality, trustworthy data assets. 
 
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will contribute to core infrastructure, frameworks, and analytical data layers. You will also play a key role in defining the culture and expectations of what great data engineering looks like, and mentoring others on the team to reach that bar. We are looking for the right person that is passionate about the power of both data and software development fundamentals, and can use them in tandem to create a data ecosystem that is principled, maintainable, and extensible to the hypergrowth happening at StubHub. 

This is a hybrid work opportunity located in either New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA.

What You'll Do:

    • Build and operate scalable data pipelines with robust QA, monitoring, and alerting 
    • Create shared tooling to improve data practitioner (data engineering, analytics engineering, data science) productivity and quality across the company 
    • Influence the direction for key infrastructure and framework choices for data pipelining and data management 
    • Contribute to core cross-functional data models 
    • Launch data platform features that have immediate impact on the velocity of innovation and ultimately growth of the business 
    • Manage individual initiatives—Setting priorities, deadlines, and deliverables based on your technical expertise 
    • Foster a culture ofinclusion, results-oriented execution, open innovation, and limitless creativity in your team 

What You've Done:

    • 7+ years of relevant development experience—in data platform or data engineering—in fast paced environments 
    • Very high SQL proficiency, with experience in both transactional RDBMS systems and distributed systems 
    • Strong programming and system design skills 
    • Experience designing and developing large-scale, efficient batch and streaming data processing 
    • Ability to analyze and reason about large datasets to identify data quality issues and other contextual insights 
    • Experience mentoring, delegating to, and reviewing the work of junior team members 
    • Passion forgreat data end-user experience and stewardship 

    • Experienced with:
    • Data pipeline management and orchestration tools, such as Airflow 
    • Cloud-based data warehousing solutions, such as Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift 
    • Batch processing systems, such as Spark 
    • Streaming or event-driven workflows, such as Kafka and Flink

The anticipated gross annual base salary range for this role is $200,000 – $300,000 per year. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which also includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.
