Job Mission
The Project Manager will support the implementation and expansion of Terraformation’s operations in Cameroon, in partnership with CTFC and Iroko Analytics. This role will take over day-to-day coordination and in-country representation for the Carbon Reforestation Initiative of Communal Forests in Cameroon (IRCFCC) and related efforts. This role will coordinate with local partners (CTFC/Iroko), government ministries, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of project activities on the ground.
This position will co-create key materials with project partners and will manage project timelines and deliverables to guarantee critical milestones and objectives are achieved. Working cross-functionally with Terraformation’s internal teams and experts, the Project Manager will expertly utilize existing internal processes, collect and aggregate partner data for internal/external use, analyze partner reporting and key learnings, and ensure a high-quality partner experience.
Location and Time: This is a contract position with an estimated initial commitment of up to 20 hours per week. The role requires in-person work in Yaoundé and regular field visits to project sites. The expected starting date of the role is October 2025.
Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Implementation
- Lead day-to-day coordination with CTFC and Iroko, ensuring alignment with Terraformation’s standards and timelines and VCS requirements.
- Participate in investor and auditor field visits, providing logistical and technical support.
- Work directly with CTFC in Yaoundé to finalize execution details for: seed collection, restoration plan, human resource management plan (project will employ up to 1,500 seasonal workers per year), field operations and logistics, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting protocols, and refining the project budget to improve the accuracy of the financial model
- Serve as the primary liaison to streamline communications between CTFC, Iroko, and Terraformation (minimizing reliance on translation by Jules).
Strengthen Terraformation’s local presence by:
- Jointly attending ministry meetings with CTFC to develop relationships with government officials.
- Mapping key stakeholders and expanding connections across relevant ministries.
- Engaging with potential donors such as the EU delegation in Cameroon
Act as lead relationship manager with local NGOs and collaborators.
- Take over discussions with WWF and AJESH from Piotr.
- Identify and assess new reforestation project opportunities in the region.
Project Oversight
- Support the operational readiness of the IRCFCC, with implementation planned to start in 2026 and first planting in early 2027
- Coordinate pre-implementation activities and stakeholder preparation.
- Ensure project milestones, regulatory steps, and technical details are tracked and addressed on schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience in project management, forestry, conservation, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Fluent in French and English.
- Proven experience working with government entities (MINFOF, MINEPDED, MINADER, MINDEVEL), NGOs, or restoration partners in Cameroon.
- Experience with Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) processes in Cameroon.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple partners and priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication (document writing and reporting).
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the corresponding Google Suite of tools.
- Based in or willing to relocate to Yaoundé.
- Willing to spend 20% of the time in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Remote work experience, in particular with a US organization and across multiple time zones.
- Experience with carbon project development and REDD+ Strategy in Cameroon (e.g., VCS/CCB).
- Familiarity with forest restoration techniques, seed banking, or nursery operations.
- Professional network in Cameroon's environmental or forestry sectors.
- Prior involvement in international donor- or investor-backed field projects.
