The Manager, Artificial Intelligence is responsible for leading TREND's machine learning initiatives by managing a team of AI engineers, overseeing project execution, and ensuring the successful delivery and integration of advanced AI models into business operations. This role emphasizes both strategic leadership and technical expertise, driving innovation and ensuring scalable, high-performance solutions aligned with business goals. The MGRAI will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across data engineering, software development, and analytics to implement AI solutions that deliver measurable impact.
This is a hands-on leadership role where the manager is expected to actively contribute to development when needed. Ideal candidates should be comfortable writing production-level code and jumping into model implementation or system debugging to help move projects forward and achieve results.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of machine learning engineers, providing technical mentorship, performance evaluations, and career development guidance, while also contributing hands-on to technical work as needed.
- Develop and execute the machine learning strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and technological capabilities.
- Oversee the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle including data collection, preprocessing, modeling, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Set and manage project timelines, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of AI initiatives.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to define ML use cases, design solutions, and integrate models into production systems.
- Review and guide the development of machine learning models using frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent.
- Actively contribute to coding, model experimentation, and system design when necessary to unblock progress or accelerate delivery.
- Ensure model robustness, scalability, and performance while meeting compliance and data privacy standards.
- Drive experimentation and continuous improvement of ML pipelines and methodologies.
- Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Stay current with advances in machine learning, AI, and data science technologies to evaluate new tools and techniques for team adoption.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field preferred; Bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience will be considered.
- 7+ years of experience in machine learning and data science, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing ML teams.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
- Experience deploying ML models into production environments and working with MLOps pipelines.
- Solid understanding of data architecture, model lifecycle, and algorithm optimization.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and their ML toolsets.
- Familiarity with tools for data versioning, CI/CD, and containerization (e.g., MLflow, Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong knowledge of data privacy, HIPAA, and PHI-related security requirements.
- Domain experience in healthcare, health insurance, or a regulated industry.
Mental and Physical Demands
- This position will be exposed mainly to an indoor office environment and will be expected to work in or around computers and printers.
- The nature of the work is sedentary, and the employee will be sitting most of the time.
- Essential physical functions of the job include typing and the repetitive motion to utilize computer software and hardware continuously throughout the day.
- Essential mental functions of this position include concentrating on analytical tasks, reading information, and verbal/written communication to others continuously throughout the day.
