What you will be responsible for:
We are looking for an experienced structural engineer to join our integrated architecture and engineering team. As a Structural Engineer, your responsibilities will include designing foundations, creating permit and construction documents, and addressing manufacturing and field RFIs for each home. With the opportunity to manage up to 10 projects concurrently, you will contribute to scaling our processes efficiently. You will also play a crucial role in expanding our home product line, which will include designing various components of our home including light-frame wood modules and architectural steel elements.

As the second structural engineer on the team, your input will shape the team standards and processes as we continue to grow. We believe in investing in our employees' potential and providing them with the resources and support needed to thrive in their careers. Join us and embark on a journey of personal and professional growth, where your talents are nurtured, and your ambitions are realized.

This is a hybrid role working with our remote design team. You may work from our manufacturing facility in Sacramento, our company office in Mountain View, or from home. You must be able to make frequent visits to our project sites in the Bay Area (currently Mountain View, San Jose, and Redwood City) and occasional visits to our Sacramento manufacturing facility.

What you’ll do:

    • Develop a deep understanding of all aspects of the product, including design for manufacturing, transportation, and assembly.
    • Design and document project-specific structural elements, including foundations, for each home project.
    • Coordinate with architects and engineers to deliver fully coordinated, constructable designs.
    • Perform site observation, review submittals, and respond to manufacturing and construction RFIs.
    • Create structural engineering tools, systems, and processes to expedite the design and documentation process.
    • Build strong, collaborative relationships with Field, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Design teams.

Who you are:

    • You have strong technical expertise and can use experience to creatively solve unconventional engineering challenges.
    • You are highly detailed and can visualize how all the pieces of a building go together.
    • You are a team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves and help others to meet the team’s goals.
    • You have the ability to work cross-functionally with teams such as engineering, design, manufacturing and site operations to successfully manage projects from strategy through to execution.
    • You have a passion for continuous improvement and want to make buildings better for the people who build them and use them.

Skills & Qualifications:

    • Licensed Civil PE in California.
    • Minimum 4 years' experience in Structural Design.
    • Experience in designing light-framed wood systems, architectural steel components such as stairs and canopies, and foundations.
    • Opportunity to apply your expertise in novel ways, exploring new approaches and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
    • Experience with BIM systems such as Revit.
