We are seeking experienced software engineers to design and implement backend APIs and services which power Voxel’s core customer experience. This role will collaborate with many teams across the company to deliver robust, high performance, and scalable technical solutions. Successful candidates have a track record of delivering scalable, production quality services in data-intensive environments. They also have a proven track record of leading customer-centric technical projects and delivering customer value.

What You'll Do

    • Collaborate with engineering and non-engineering teams across the company to better understand our users and how our technology can meet their evolving needs
    • Lead engineering projects from scoping to implementation to maintenance
    • Research, propose, and design backend services and APIs based on the needs of customers and internal systems
    • Implement backend services and APIs (Go, Node.js, Python, gRPC/ConnectRPC, AWS)
    • Perform data modeling and data management (PostgreSQL, Protobuf, AWS)
    • Monitor, measure, and improve system quality using a data-driven approach
    • Utilize and contribute to software engineering best practices (Git, CI/CD, observability, test automation, etc.)
    • Author and contribute to technical documents, such as design documents or system documentation
    • Mentor and guide the technical development of other engineers

Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
    • 8+ years of experience developing data-intensive backend APIs and service at scale
    • 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional engineering projects
    • Proven track record of customer-centric technical leadership and delivering customer value
    • Solid engineering and coding skills (preferably Go, C++, Java, or another typed/compiled language)
    • Production experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and cloud native architecture
    • Production experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
    • Production experience with distributed systems, data stores, data modeling, indexing and associated trade-offs
    • Production experience with software testing and automation

Bonus Qualifications

    • 3+ years of experience developing backend services with Go
    • 3+ years of experience designing gRPC APIs
    • Experience working in close collaboration with frontend engineers and product managers
    • Experience with Bazel
$200,000 - $250,000 a year
