Role Overview
Title: Staff/Senior Geologist
Hours: Full-time; Salaried
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Benefits Eligible: Yes
Manager: Head of Exploration

Mission - Why we exist and why we need you
Geothermal energy is the most abundant renewable energy source in the world. There is 2,300 times more energy in geothermal heat in the ground than in oil, gas, coal, and methane combined. However, historically it’s been hard to find and expensive to develop. At Zanskar, we’re using better technology to find and develop new geothermal resources in order to make geothermal an affordable and vital contributor to a carbon-free electrical grid.

As a Staff/Senior Exploration Geoscientist, you will be at the forefront of our organization's efforts to harness clean and sustainable energy sources from beneath the Earth's surface. Your purpose is to lead and execute geothermal exploration projects, identifying and characterizing geothermal reservoirs to enable the responsible and efficient development of geothermal power generation.

Outcomes - Problems you’ll solve
In your first six months, you will be responsible for generating new geothermal prospects and helping to manage data collection and drilling programs across the western United States. You will be responsible for proficient technical geoscience evaluations of geothermal prospects through subsurface and surface mapping, well data analysis, and modeling. You will also participate in data acquisition programs for geophysical and drilling campaigns, which then inform quick operational decisions in our drilling campaigns. Your success in this role allows us to confirm the commercial viability of new prospects and to better prepare geothermal resources in our portfolio for development.

Competencies - What we’re looking for
- Geoscience skills: An MSc or PhD in geology/geophysics or related scientific field. Ability to integrate various geological and geophysical datasets to influence business decisions. Prior experience in geospatial and geological software tools, drilling, and field mapping in geothermal or epithermal mineral systems are highly valued.

- Explorer mentality: Proven track record of generating successful new play concepts and exploration targets in the geothermal, petroleum, or mineral industries. Eagerness to work with interdisciplinary team members to develop and deploy novel ML and AI driven-technologies to aid in geothermal exploration.

- Field and various data experience: In-field experience with drilling and well-site logging is important. This role requires the ability to work safely and independently in the field as the job may require from time to time.

- Experience with one or more of the following: 3D modeling, gravity collection and interpretation, magnetotelluric collection and interpretation, geochemistry of geothermal systems, or reservoir engineering.

- Self-directed: An ability to learn quickly and apply acquired skills to new, unseen problems. You will be expected to take initiative, drive projects, and communicate proactively to stakeholders within the company (both with the exploration team and other teams).
