ABL Space Systems was founded in 2017 by veterans of SpaceX and Morgan Stanley to develop low-cost launch vehicles for the small satellite industry. More importantly, we’re building a launch system we are truly proud of – no gimmicks or over-design, just reliable, rapidly deployable launches. We’re an ambitious team with big goals and, together, we’re determined to prove that reaching space can be simple, efficient, and routine.
When launch day arrives, we want you by our side
Our Creative Team is responsible for ABL’s self-expression, in areas including photography, videography, copywriting, and graphic design. We support our executives, our external communications, as well as customers and partners. We are both internal and external facing, and our assignments are quick-changing. A Creative Associate will help to tell ABL’s story through a variety of projects and media. In a dynamic industry and a quickly maturing team, this will take deep thought, close collaboration, and meticulous follow-through.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop creative concepts, storyboards, and production plans (including schedules, cross-team approvals, pre-briefings with team members, logistics, physical preparation)
- Recommend and source equipment and resources for production events
- Communicate with different teams to assess their design needs
- Cover ABL’s production facilities for capture (includes El Segundo and Long Beach, CA)
- Travel to ABL’s various sites for capture (includes Mojave, CA; Kodiak, AK; others)
- Edit work, incorporating feedback from many teams across multiple review cycles
- Coordinate, as necessary, with internal approvers and external channels for publication
- Help to maintain repositories of work and processes for easy access across team users
- Help to maintain repositories of artistic direction, brand standards, and conventions
- Mix of independent and collaborative work, highly varied week-to-week
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Creative Associate may be a specialist in one of the following areas or a generalist across them:
▪ Photography
▪ Videography
▪ Editing across the Adobe Suite
▪ Media management
▪ Graphic Design
▪ Copywriting
▪ Production Assistant
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- Thoughtfulness (we approach things intentionally from a blank slate, so the answer may be unconventional, and we need to be able to explain why we’re choosing a new path)
- A resourceful problem-solver (we’ll be executing many workflows for the first time)
- Organized (digitally and physically; we’ll make content for many different audiences)
- An expert in at least one of the focus areas above (with a desire to gain more expertise!)
- Well-versed in the Adobe Creative Suite (where we do most of our work)
- Down to work across projects and get your hands dirty… as a typical day might include pitching a story for a customer in the morning then painting a rocket in the afternoon
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift 30 pounds with reasonable accommodations
- Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence
- While working this job, you will typically work across office, test site and launch site environments.
