The Role
The Accounting Manager will report to ABT’s Senior Director of Finance and serve as an important member of the Finance team. This full-time, salaried position is responsible for maintaining the general ledger for various financial activities and assisting with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports. 

The Accounting Manager will be deeply involved in ABT’s day-to-day operations. This position will also be responsible to supervise and manage the Bursar and Finance Assistant position.
 
This role requires an individual who is a team player, willing to learn and share new ideas and accept new challenges and tasks. Ideal candidates are individuals with several years of accounting experience as well as an interest in the nonprofit sector and the performing arts.
 

Primary Responsibilities

    • Assist the Sr. Director of Finance and CFO with day-to-day operational activities.
    • Supervise and manage the Bursar and Finance Assistant position.
    • Act as a key component on cash flow preparation and budgeting process.
    • Maintain balance sheet schedules including accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, fixed assets, and deferred income.
    • Reconcile bank accounts and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
    • Reconcile investment accounts monthly.
    • Be involved in the annual audit preparation.
    • Be involved in updating budget vs actual reports throughout the year.
    • Assist in the preparation of the 990-tax form.
    • Prepare other federal and state tax forms.
    • Generate monthly and quarterly financial reports.
    • Support colleagues on the Finance team as necessary to complete departmental tasks.
    • Perform other duties as requested.

Position Qualifications/Essential Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
    • 3-5 years relevant experience.
    • Familiarity with Financial Edge accounting package (preferred).
    • Fluency in Microsoft Suite and familiar with database concepts.
    • Demonstrated commitment to excellence and high standards, including quality customer service to ABT’s constituents (staff, artists, vendors, etc.).
    • Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Confidence in using technology.
    • Acute attention to detail.
    • Prioritizes and organizes work to effectively balance multiple assignments, set priorities and meet stringent deadlines.
    • Works independently as well as a strong team player.
    • Approaches tasks with a low-ego, hands on, results-driven leadership style and with a down-to-earth, collaborative, “roll-up-your-sleeves” personality, and rally others to take the initiative in their areas of expertise.
