ACPL is on the hunt for a meticulous Copy Cataloger to join our behind-the-scenes team of dedicated professionals. In this pivotal role, you’ll handle the intricate process of copy cataloging a wide array of materials—from print and media to digital resources and unique non-print formats. Your work will be essential in streamlining access to valuable information and ensuring our patrons can effortlessly find what they need. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) non-exempt position.

The work schedule is flexible and will be primarily daytime hours.

Overview of Essential Functions

    • Performs complex editing to improve, enhance, and adapt bibliographic records according to guidelines in all subject areas and languages.
    • Adjusts rules to accommodate new types of material.
    • Collaborates with colleagues on more difficult cataloging decisions and cataloging processes.
    • Maintains ongoing accuracy and integrity of the catalog database and resolve discrepancies. Perform special database maintenance projects as needed
    • Considers LC requirements for RDA, Library of Congress subject heading policies, and established Dewey Decimal Classification.
    • Ensures all materials can be retrieved using standardized methods in the most efficient way.
    • Develops and maintains parts of the catalog that pertain to collections under specific jurisdiction.
    • Links ACPL barcode to coordinating titles database record.

Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree; AND two (2) years of library operations experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

    • Candidate must have completed nine credit hours of specific library science courses or commit to completing them within three years of start date in this position. Completion of this coursework will allow the person obtaining this position to achieve the required Librarian Certification Level 5 within three years of start date in this position. After requirements are met, must earn 50 LEU (Library Education Units) within five years.

Physical Demands

    • Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
