Responsibilities vary by job title as follows:

Summer Assistant - Assist with SPARK summer learning program. Summer Assistants may be called upon to do any of the following: shelve books, check materials in and out, register customers for library cards, process overdue materials, help customers find library materials, assist with the summer reading program, possibly drive to branches, lift and carry books and other items. All library locations.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $10.75

Library LINK Assistant - Serving free lunches to children up to 18 years of age. Assisting in programs following the serving of lunch. Play educational games and do activities with lower elementary-aged children. Encourage literacy skills. Georgetown, Hessen Cassel, Little Turtle, Main, Pontiac, Shawnee, Tecumseh and Waynedale locations only.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $12.73

Library LINK Programmer - Serving free lunches to children up to 18 years of age. Preparing and running a program after lunch. Plan activities and educational games with lower elementary-aged children. Encourage literacy skills. Hessen Cassel, Little Turtle, Pontiac, Shawnee, and Tecumseh locations only.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.79

READy to Go Programmer - Responsible for presenting energetic storytimes and STEM programming at childcares and camps across the city. Recording and collating detailed statistics and assessments of each visit. READy to Go Programmer will work from the Main Library, but must be comfortable driving to sites in order to work directly with care providers and young children.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.79

ALL summer positions require cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor.

Most summer positions will work for the months of June and July.

Some positions may be required to wear a costume for special programming.

Summer Assistant Requirements

    • Good literacy skills
    • Familiarity with computers
    • Ability to learn policies and procedures for circulating books
    • Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing pleasantly and cooperatively with customers and other staff over the phone and in person

Library Link Assistant Requirements

    • Good literacy skills
    • Ability to interact well with children
    • Genuine interest in and understanding of children
    • Good interpersonal communication skills sufficient for supervising children and teens

Library Link Programmer Requirements

    • Good literacy skills
    • Ability to interact well with children
    • Genuine interest in and understanding of children
    • Good interpersonal communication skills sufficient for supervising children and teens
    •  Ideal candidate will have analytic abilities sufficient for analyzing program needs on a proactive basis and planning to meet these needs.

READy to Go Programmer Requirements

    • High school diploma and 2-3 years working with children; early childhood and/or elementary experience
    • Knowledge of children’s literature
    • Knowledge of early literacy concepts
    • Genuine interest in and understanding of children
    • Good interpersonal communication skills sufficient for supervising children
    • High ability to deal positively and cooperatively with a wide variety of internal and external customers
    • Valid Driver's License Required
