As a maintenance technician, you will use your skills to perform skilled trades duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and structural systems and elements throughout the Library's facilities. This is a full-time 40-hour-per-week position, consisting of daytime hours (7am - 3:30pm) and on-call rotation.

Overview of Essential Functions

    • Estimates materials, tools and equipment needed for work assignments.
    • Purchases parts/supplies from local vendors and records purchases through requisition system.
    • Repairs/replaces light bulbs, lenses, ballasts, drivers, fixtures, etc. on both interior and exterior locations.
    • Performs skilled trades duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and related facility systems and components.
    • Inspects boilers, HVAC equipment, plumbing, generators, pumps, motors and similar mechanical/electrical equipment on a regular basis; troubleshoots problems and repairs as required.
    • Repairs and installs doors, hardware, assisted opening devices, and related hardware.
    • Performs interior repairs such as drywall, painting, flooring, ceiling tiles, etc.
    • Performs an operational and safety check of the equipment before use; checks fuel and fluid levels, air pressures, hydraulic systems and lubrication points; performs lubrication of essential parts. 

Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/GED, successful completion in a trade; AND two (2) years of journey-level experience with the installation, maintenance and repair of building operating systems and facilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    • Valid Driver's License.

Required Knowledge

    • Principles, methods and materials used in a variety of mechanical, electro-mechanical and electrical installation, maintenance and repair work.
    • Operation and maintenance of a variety of hand, power and shop tools used in a variety of trade areas.
    • Safety regulations, principles, practices and equipment related to the work.
    • Shop mathematics.
    • Practices, techniques and equipment of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and other relevant trades.
    • Basic computer literacy and/or web-based work order tracking.
    • Ability to use a smartphone to call, text, email, enter and/or manipulate information on an app or website. 

Required Skills

    • Safely operating a variety of small vehicles (vans, pickup trucks, scissor lifts, trailers)  and related equipment.
    • Maintaining accurate logs and basic records related to the work.
    • Performing skilled maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical, electrical, HVAC and other facility operating systems.
    • Operating and maintaining specialized tools and equipment of a variety of mechanical, electrical and facilities maintenance trades.
    • Operating a variety of vehicles skillfully and safely.
    • Recognizing potentially hazardous situations on the job site and taking appropriate action.
    • Measuring and calculating angles, lengths and volumes.
    • Estimating necessary materials and equipment to complete assignments.
    • Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work.
    • Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
    • Reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings and blueprints.
    • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
    • Working without close supervision in standard work situations.

Compensation and Benefits

    • Compensation expected to be $39K - 45K or higher based on previous comparable work experience.
