HCL Software is a division of HCL Technologies that develops and delivers a next-generation portfolio of enterprise-grade software-based offerings with flexible consumption models, spanning traditional on-premises software, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and bundled managed services. We bring speed, insights and innovations (big and small) to create value for our customers in Dev Ops, Automation and Application Modernization software.

We are in search of a Senior Technical Writer to develop, write, and maintain technical documentation for Actian Ingres, Vector, and Actian X, database management systems that run on multiple platforms. Documentation for online and PDF publication includes: installation, database and system administration, connectivity, security, command and language references, and ancillary guides.

Key Responsibilties:

    • Gather information from subject matter experts and other relevant sources
    • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and deliver quality documentation that is accurate, thorough, and meets project deadlines
    • Participate in project meetings and provide feedback on documentation deliverables and project status
    • Write and format documents to adhere to established corporate standards
    • Edit documents for technical and grammatical accuracy
    • Use digital tools to create accurate representations of software products
    • Participate in formal document control processes
    • Manage all technical documentation responsibilities for multiple projects simultaneously
    • Manage all sustaining internal technical documentation as required
    • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge according to departmental directives

Essential Qualifications:

    • Degree in writing: bachelor’s (English, journalism, or technical writing) or, preferably, a master’s in professional writing
    • Strong skills in writing, editing, copy editing, and formatting
    • Certificate or experience in computer technology preferred
    • Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and heavy workloads in a dynamic, project-oriented environment with a globally distributed team
    • 5+ years’ experience working in a fast-paced software production environment that includes experience documenting:
    • Databases and related software
    • Cloud- or web-based software
    • SQL or other data languages
    • Advanced knowledge and experience with the following software:
    • Adobe FrameMaker 2020 or newer
    • Adobe Acrobat Pro
    • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, SnagIt, or other graphics software
    • Microsoft Office and other productivity tools
    • Software support systems such as Git, Jira, Salesforce, Confluence, and others
