Internship Overview
We are looking for interns to join us for our 2024Summer Internship Program! What It’s Like Interning with Us!
Weekly Events— just because the internship is remote, doesn’t mean we don’t have time for fun! Last summer, we hosted an Actian tie-dye shirt event, tiny camp fire—complete with smores(!!!), a murder mystery party, and so much more
Time with Executives— Interns all get a chance to connect with our executive team through panel discussions, 1:1s, Q&A meetings, and events
Workshops & Tech Tuesday’s— Interns all participate in Tech Tuesday’s where they get to learn more about Actian specific technologies, as well as workshops geared towards new professionals
Opportunity to travel – we will be hosting a hybrid orientation! For those that are interested in being in person for orientation, we will fly you to our Austin, TX office.
Position Overview
The Actian education team provide all of the educational content that is available in our Actian Academy. This content helps our customers, partners, and colleagues to get the best from our products be that on-prem or in the cloud. We are a major contributor to the Customer Success organization. The team builds all content in-house including animations and infographics. The role will involve working across all disciplines we cover including subject matter expert content creation, storyboarding, voice over script creation, video production and finally publication into the Academy. You will also be involved in helping us to document and refine our working processes which we are currently building to facilitate new joiners to the team.
Capstone Overview
The project that you will be working on will be to create engaging customer facing educational content for use by our customers to further their knowledge of the DataConnect product.
In this instance the base subject matter content will be derived from an external partner in a format we have prescribed and conforms to our working practices.
- You will be working as a member of the team, using our processes to generate storyboards in PowerPoint and accompanying voice over scripts in Word.
- You may need to engage with our external partner to ask questions or confirm doubts and become familiar with our internal knowledge resources such as our documentation, the Academy and internal SME’s.
- There will be an opportunity to work with the graphic designers to assist in producing a video with the Camtasia video production software.
- You will become familiar with JIRA to understand your work priorities, next task, track your time and report progress.
- You will be involved with team and daily stand-up calls to ensure work is continuing as required and to highlight any progress blocking issues.
- The Education team members reside indifferent locations across the globe UK, South Africa, and India so there are different time zones to work with.
This is a challenging real-world project where you will need to diligently go about your duties to help us produce this important customer facing educational content to the level, we produce content and in a timely fashion.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate your abilities to use the resources around you to progress your tasks to completion. Be sure to ask questions early to facilitate forward progress.
- Take time to use the Academy to learn about the Actian product range and in particular the product for which you will be mostly working with.
- Take time to understand the departmental processes to ensure your work is in the correct format for the next stage of the process and any future updates. We have templates for storyboarding, an audio script template, and numerous templates in the graphic design department. We have developed these processes to help new members of the team come up to speed in a timely fashion but to also make sure that we are able to maintain the files once you have completed your time with us.
- As a team we all take some responsibility for administering the Actian Academy. As a team member you will also need to take on some of these duties with our assistance. You’ll gain knowledge for course and lesson creation along with the process for publishing content into the customer domain.
- A key aspect of this role and the Capstone Project is the ability to generate voice over scripts which are succinct, accurate and engaging. The use of the English language and ability to critically review and refine your own work is essential. You will need to be comfortable reading your scripts out aloud (in your own space and not to anyone else) to ensure the script flows well. All scripts are rigorously reviewed before going for voice over to ensure they flow, tell the story, and are fit for purpose. The time to perform script reviews is significantly reduced if the script is in a healthy state to begin with.
Nice to Have
- An excellent grasp and enjoyment of the English Language and grammar. The ability to think about the best way to convey information to a customer via the audio script. Sometimes changing a sentence structure can be a game changer!
- A creative mindset for visualizing concepts via an infographic or simple animation. A picture speaks a thousand words, so they say. This is true so long as it’s the correct picture!
- A desire to tell a ‘how-to’ story to a customer in the most succinct and engaging way possible. We want our customers to have the best factual educational experience we can provide them.
- Be a great team player but also able to work on your own initiative. We have time zone challenges and so it’s important that you have all that you need to move forward every day.
- The ideal candidate would reside in the Eastern time zone
Requirements
- Must be actively enrolled in a college degree program
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
$20 - $30 an hour
