This Senior Field Technology Director role at Actian is a high impact position with responsibilities including telling our comprehensive data analytics story, providing thought leadership, supporting strategic sales opportunities with account teams, closely following industry trends and direction to help inform product priorities, and regularly evangelizing Actian solutions and roadmaps as one of our thought leading technical experts with customers, at industry conferences, tradeshows, user groups, meetups, and with industry press and analysts.
First and foremost, the role also requires dynamic and engaging communications and presentation skills; verbal, written and visual. The successful candidate will prepare and deliver materials that engage and influence customers and prospects. Additionally, the role requires technical knowledge in data management and data analytics products and markets combined with a passion for evangelism. This individual will be highly influential with our customers, our internal product and solution teams, and the industry at large.
The role is based in EMEA and will require travel to areas throughout the region as well as occasional travel to the US or Asia-Pacific. This position will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer and involve cross functional engagement with Sales, Product, Engineering, CX, and Services & Support.


    • Partner cross functionally to develop and evangelize a “point of view” on the future of data management and data analytics.
    • Be a trusted advisor to existing and potential customers and partners. 
    • Partner with Field Marketing, and Sales to determine the right speaking engagements for the region and deliver messaging in key speaking slots.
    • Develop presentation materials for strategic sales engagements, tradeshows and industry events, and other key speaking opportunities, aligned with the brand and product messaging.
    • Help develop messaging that will resonate with customers, prospects, key influencers, and analysts in region.
    • Provide market and customer feedback to Product and Engineering teams that inform product roadmaps and priorities.
    • Identify and document key use cases for Actian technologies to drive standardized language and understanding for how the products are used
    • Support strategic sales opportunities with account teams by collaborating with them on internal meetings, joining customer calls and attending customer facing meetings 
    • Act as an industry thought leader in customer meetings and public settings by understanding where the industry is headed and how our company can help our strategic partners move forward in their business sectors 
    • Regularly evangelize solutions and roadmaps as one of our experts with customers and partners, and at industry conferences and trade shows

Required Skills:

    • Strong communication skills that drive engagement and influence with a broad audience and an ability to simplify and explain complex problems to stakeholders of all levels across multiple functions
    • A passion for data technologies and evangelism
    • Experience in an outbound-facing role; ability to explain strategic and tactical concepts for teams modernizing applications in digital and cloud migration journeys
    • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal); ability to communicate both modernization concepts and cloud native benefits to technical and nontechnical audiences
    • Skills to act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to existing and potential customers and partners
    • Ability to have conversations with executives and then credibly map that to a very technical conversation around solutions and features for technical audiences
    • Demonstrated thought leadership and experience creating technical content
    • Track record as a conference speaker 
    • Ability to write, produce, and deliver technical content: blogs, podcasts, videos, webinars, eBooks that influence, share and drive conversations via digital marketing and social media
    • Collaboration skills for feedback to and cooperation with internal engineering and product teams 
    • Customer focused with a strong business acumen 
    • Ability to work with key stakeholders across the business and seamlessly deliver results 
    • Ability to develop and deliver consistent messaging 


    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience 
    • 10+ years in a customer-facing role explaining strategic and tactical concepts to customers required
    • 7+ years in the data management, data integration or data analytics market
    • Recent industry experience and deep technical background in data technology and the data analytics cloud journey
    • Experience presenting at conferences and in front of customers
    • Fluent in English written and oral as well as another language (e.g. German, French, Spanish)

This position is not tied to any work location in Europe, but proximity to an international airport is an advantage. Mobile working is state of the art at Actian in such a position and we trust your self-organization in the home office.
