About the role
We are looking for an engineering leader to help enable teams to build and maintain for a number of existing apps in the Adaptavist portfolio to accelerate growth.
Based at our KL office, you’ll be trusted to shape and define the Engineering culture alongside the other Team Leads and Studio Lead. As well as managing a team of developers, you’ll work alongside the wider Discovery team to shape the development of the Adaptavist Learn product.
As an Engineering Team Lead, you will contribute to apps that help 20 million people around the world using the Atlassian tools make better software. You will lead a team practicing continuous delivery so you have to be comfortable shipping to production daily and also working with more traditional software delivery. Growing your team of engineers is your responsibility so you'll be hiring and mentoring, coaching and using our development framework to help individuals increase their impact.
As well as leading a team of engineers you'll work closely with product managers and leadership to build a roadmap to deliver quality features and fixes to our customers. You'll be managing the balance of your individual contributions and supporting your team in delivery. As the most senior engineer on the team, you'll be responsible for facilitating solution design, building on the knowledge and skills in the team as well as reaching out to other engineering teams for input. You'll value autonomy, mastery, practice, doing the right thing, paying down technical debt.

Practise a build, measure, learn mindset for the team to deliver the most value in the shortest time for customers and the business. Provide a platform for developers to perform tasks of varying complexityAssist with priority setting for productsDeliver updates to key stakeholdersEnsure the team has the right tools, technology and freedom to deliver their work and innovateLeading software development team following agile processes
Hiring and/or onboarding new team membersMentoring, coaching and developing a team of Software Engineers of varying level of experienceWork with direct reports to set objectives and to create and execute development plansFacilitate and enable cross functional collaborationAlign the team with product and business priorities
Designing, writing and testing solutionsComplex, collaborative problem solvingBe comfortable delivering proof of concepts and Alpha style delivery to build, measure and learn. Be prepared to end a project if value is not found to be great enough to progress to Beta and Production. Performing code peer reviewsWriting automated tests at unit, integration and functional levels and manage code quality within the teamTroubleshooting builds and deployments
What we're looking for:
- Strong software development skills in one backend technology (Java, Groovy, Python) and one of the following frontend technologies (TypeScript, ReactJS, Vue.js, AngularJS) - Full Stack Developer
- Experience leading or managing an agile team
- Experience collaborating with & coaching more junior engineers
- Comfortable working with a Test and Learn approach with experience prototyping and evaluating new ideas
- Knowledge of implementing and running CI / CD
- Experience working on Cloud infrastructure, such as AWS infrastructure or other equivalent infrastructure
- Understanding micro-services oriented architecture with extensible REST APIs
A few nice to haves:
- Experience with mentoring and coaching more junior engineers
- Experience working across the full development stack
- Atlassian Ecosystem experience
- Strong experience in Java, ReactJS and Typescript
- Any kind of plugin development experience
- Leading of agile ceremonies
- Experience developing applications with serverless architecture
