About the role

Brew Digital are looking for a creative Art Director who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment for a range of internal and external customers coming from many different sectors - getting the best out of their team and having ecstatic customers.

This role will be responsible for the overall visual aspects of the creative and design work performed by Brew Digital, and coordinating the work of the design team.

As the Art Director, you will work with internal and external clients to develop the artistic approach and style and ensure that we have great quality briefs. You will be coordinating activities, reviewing and approving concepts, artwork, design, and layouts. And you will be presenting designs to clients for approval.

You will also contribute to the improvement of design processes and will contribute to the overall strategy for the design team.

Some of the things you'll do

    • Design Strategy & Quality
    • Working with key clients to develop concepts and ensure we receive high-quality design briefs
      Contributes to the design strategy for Brew with regards to all visual outputs, processes and design methodologies used 
      Sets the quality standard and design output of work produced by the team 
      Reviewing a variety of work for quality and consistency with brand guidelines
      Present designs to clients for approval, and minimise rework

    • Work Organisation and Reporting
    • Manage and support designers from a range of graphics and visual design disciplines and levels of experience
      Coordinate activities with other departments (e.g. Development)
      Coordinate work to ensure that all clients receive their work to schedule
      Regular reporting on the throughput and efficiency of the design team
      Develop better ways of working through process improvement

    • People Management 
    • Lead, mentor, coach and inspire the design team to enable them to develop as designers, improving their skills and efficiency, while exploring new ideas and techniques.
      Create and deploy a talent development plan to support continuous development and  upskilling within the team in line with the overall design strategy
      Collaborate with L&D Team Lead to build clear career paths for the team to develop, progress and grow within their roles. 
      Providing regular and timely feedback to the team, acknowledging success and the need for improvement.

What we're looking for

    • Proven successes working as an Art Director 
    • Hands-on experience with web design, illustration, logo design, typography, colour, print and experiential design (e.g. events)
    • Strong interpersonal skills dealing with challenging Clients pragmatically - being accommodating when required but charmingly challenging when needed
    • Effective experience of managing a design team providing support, encouragement and supervision to encourage practical skills and personal growth
    • Proficient use in a range of modern design tools - such as Adobe suite, Sketch, InVision, Google Web Designer, extra points for animation/2D/3D experience
    • Demonstrable design skills with a strong portfolio
    • Commercial appreciation and understanding
    • Forensic attention to detail
